Gordon Herigstad took these photos of his West Hurley "Thompson" fitted with a Richardson "Combination Scope Base" and red dot optical scope.

Gordon says the set up yields extremely accurate fire. The scope base duplicates the profile of the Lyman rear sight so the gun fits in cases designed to "pocket" the sight. If the sight is removed, a notch on the base returns the gun to a standard fixed sights configuration.

Unfortunately all scope bases are out of Richardson stock, but like the bolt handles, there is hope.

No, that is not Doug in the pictures!

Doug has just had his 8th eye operation. If all goes well, the bandage comes off today and things should improve thereafter.

Did anyone notice the "A1" markings on the West Hurley 1928?

I like the therory but wish they came with a peep rear emergancy and not a notch, some of us can't see that close. My focal lenght starts to clear up right about the cocking handle. I always have to have my ladder sight raised as I can't keep the front sight centered in the blur. Does this setup change the center of balance ?
