  1. Did the Duke use a Thompson in "They Were Expendable"? (1945 btw) I know he did in "Return to Bataan" (1945). I think that is the only film he used one in.
  2. Oh PK.. is that good news for me? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  3. Ok, filling out the ole SBR form ATF F1 (5320-1) (3-2001) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif What do I put in Question 4h "ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTION (include alll numbers and other identifying data which will appear on the firearm" ?? Question 4i states "STATE WHY YOU INTEND TO MAKE FIREARM" Uh.. does "To make it look like a M1928A1 Thompson SMG" sound like a smart answer? If not what? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ph34r.gif Questions 4e and 4f wants to know the length of the barrel and overall. Is this the gun before or after the modification? Do you all recommend seeing the CLEO in person? Thanks in advance. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif Cheers, Kenneth "Fencer" Cook
  4. Well.. I got my life back thanks to a fine surgeon.. but lets get to the Thompson Stuff. I got a subscription to the Thompson Collectors Association. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif I got Tracie Hill's wonderful "Thompson: the American Legend" http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Oh, and I almost forgot.. I ordered a 27A1 today! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Whoo Hooo!! ok so it isn't a FA buts it the best I could afford. Cheers,
  5. How about rating the various places that sell TSMG items and their service. Sarco Northridge IMA Kahr PK Tommygunner etc..
  6. I believe the Fw-190D9 or was it a D13.. was bought by one of the co-founders of Microsoft. He bought the rest of the collection as well (aircraft). Last I knew it was going into a museum up in Washington State. The Boeing Museum??? Saw that Fw-190D and the rest of the collection about 11 years ago. What a nice collection in one of the hottest places ever. It was 10:00am and already above 110dF in the hangar. Course it was early August... I am a long time P-51D Mustang enthusiast, they had an A-36A there. Cheers,
  7. QUOTE What is so great about a Colt? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif Oh boy.. can of worms has been opened. Grenade into a trench. (insert metaphor here) Now, can I disable this thread so my CPU does not explode. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  8. Well it was sorta amusing for a couple reasons. If you were Kahr, and you were sending a gun to "American Rifleman" to have as a "Technical Review" on their TV show.. what would you do? Pick a nice one.. tune it.. make sure it worked flawlessly.. right? Well they tried.. A few quotes... "(Kahr) retooled Thompson's 80yr old design so that it can be manufactured with modern CNC machining to aid cost control and improve fit and finish." http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif "at 8.5lbs the thompon's trigger was quite heavy with substantial takeup and gritty letoff." "we experienced no failues (to feed) with FMJ bullets, but hollow points and semi wad cutters often failed to feed properly." No drum shown. Funny thing though... it appeared that as the show went on, that the front half of the barrel became discolored. They even went so far as to not show the whole gun in some shots. In one close up you can definately see a blemish on the barrel. It sounded like a cap gun going off! And to think I am going to buy one of these things.. Thank God for PK.
  9. The "Stupid Ebayers" are the people who post GUNS on the site. Magazines/Drums, well if Ebay is not smart enough to understand the concept then they should allow them to be posted. No offense GiantPanda. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
  10. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...04&category=585 He can't be serious. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif
  11. This week American Rifleman on the "OutDoor" network will be reviewing the Kahr Thompson in their technical section. This could be amusing... or not.. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
  12. That looks excellent PK! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif
  13. While recovering from my recent surgery I find alot of spare time on my hands. So I took it upon myself to go through the Movies on TV looking for Thompsons. Its amazing how many there are.. Here are a few not on the site's list. I will add them to the list but thought I would post them here for everyone's enjoyment. Heroes of Telemark (1965) Kirk Douglas and a few others sneak up on a heavy water plant carrying M1928A1s with 20rd magazines. Buy it at Amazon.com Heroes of Telemark Battleground (1950) Van Johnson and the 101st Airborne hold the Nazis out of the strategic crossroads. James Whitmore (of “THEM!” fame) as “Sgt Kinnie” uses a M1928A1. Favorite scene is Whitmore, who was a real infantry man in the Philllipines in 44/45, pops up out of a foxhole and lets rip at advancing Germans. He also leads a flanking movement of sorts against the advancing Nazis. I am quite shocked this one was not already listed. Buy it at Amazon.com Battleground Desert Fox (1951) The opening scene is a group of commandos are making an attempt to kill Rommel at a sea side villa. They are using M1928A1s w/30 rd magazines. I don’t think the magazines are soldered closed though. Buy it at Amazon.com Desert Fox Beach Red (1967) Directed by Cornel Wilde, this is one disjointed movie. One of the marines uses a M1A1 with a compensator. I kid you not. Death Race 2000 (1975) Sylvestor Stalone as Chicago gangster Machine Gun Joe Viterbo shoots blanks at the crowd with a M1928A1. Immortal Battalion (1944) A M1928A1 makes a brief appearance at the obstacle course. Anzio (1968) Robert Mitchem and Colombo Peter Falk invade Italy. Several M1A1s are used. Buy it at Amazon.com Anzio Operation Petticoat (1959) Two MPs board the Pink Submarine with M1928A1s looking for a stolen pig. Buy it at Amazon.com Darby's Rangers]Operation Petticoat Darby’s Rangers (1957) Rangers hitting the beach at Anzio use M1928A1s. Buy it at Amazon.com Darby's Rangers The Silencers (1966) Dean Martin as “Matt Helm” serves I.C.E. and liberates a M1928A1 from the bad guys. Never So Few (1959) Frank Sinatra uses a Thompson against the Japanese in Burma. Buy it at Amazon.com Never So Few I have at least 4 more weeks of "recovery", so I will keep my eyes open for more. Cheers Lads,
  14. Thanks guys, its good to be alive and back. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Cheers.
  15. I had wondered why Kahr did not offer the guns with the 10.5" barrels and just have the transfer tax up front. I mean geeze, who would buy one with a 16" barrel when a 10.5" barreled one is offered. Oh yeah, sorry.. I forgot about Michigan.. Seriously though, has anyone heard how much they are going to run?? Thanks, Kenneth "Fencer" Cook PS. To all concerned, I obviously survived my spinal neck surgery. I also appear to be alot better. My Doctor, who was just named top neurosurgeon in Indianapolis by his peers, was outstanding. PPSS. PK, I will be in touch soon.
  16. Recieved my sight this week from IMA. Sight is in very good condition and fully functional. Aside from a couple areas where the finish is a little thin, it looks almost like new.
  17. Well, 3.5 hours ago, I was told I needed a "lampeneckomy" with instrumentation. Basically, remove part of neck, add metal, replace bones. Will be off work for 8 weeks with plenty of time on my hands. This topic just filled 2 hours per day. Outstanding! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Assuming I live through the operation of course. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif Cheers, Kenneth
  18. I am dropping a Kahr M1 semi into PK's capable hands. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/cool.gif What mods should I have him make to turn it into "milspec" WWII reproduction. Of course while keeping it legal. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks! Kenneth
  19. I work near where the northside store used to be, and went shooting at lunch with a friend a few times. I never had any problem with them, and thought it was a nice store with helpfull clerks. Don was always eating popcorn. However, last spring I visited the only remaining store, and I got the impression that it was catering to the "saturday night special" crowd. Cheap handguns abound. Most disturbing was a conversation I heard between a clerk and a "customer", which went into how the "customer" could not buy the gun he wanted but if he did some legal petitioning he could get his domestic battery conviction removed from his record, then he could buy it. Sorry, but that went against my grain. Also, that store was involved in, or the victim of, a gun scam in which persons from Chicago bought large numbers of cheap guns then sold them to the criminal/gang element in Chicago. I can't remember, but I believe that the Feds were involved and Don's ended up working with then in a sting operation. In 1989 an off duty deputy, on security patrol, was killed in the office park adjacent to the north store. Speculation was he stumbled upon persons unknown who were preparing to rob Don's guns. I also got a letter from the BATF concerning the new Indiana State police decision. From what it says any purchase of any type of gun will now require a call to the FBI for a background check. Having had to do this once at a gun show years ago, you can count on them delaying the check as long as possible to discourage purchases. The state police are really screwing us. But the guy used to use a Thompson in his old TV ads. (topic save attempt) Those in the area would do themselves well, to visit the gun store in Cicero. Cheers, Kenneth
  20. I had originally ordered a 28 lower and complete buttstock assembly for my future semi SBR config from IMA back in August. (Hey I keep hoping to get it) But, when I saw what PK could do with the semi lower, I canceled the original 28 lower to save it for one of you lucky guys who actually have a real 28. I got the buttstock last night. Actually I got two buttstocks. This confused me as I stared at the bubble wrapped package. Upon opening it, I can only guess that they included the 28 stock w/o metal but with the reinforcing bolt because the other 28 stock w/metal but w/o reinforcing bolt has a huge crack running from the underside front to the second screw hole. The metal was not in "excellent" condition as I was informed by IMA. In fairness they said they "expected" it to be in excellent condition, guess expectations where not met. Something interesting though. The rear stock sling attachment had a part of a sling attached. It was about 1-1/4" wide and was attached by looping it through the sling attachment and tightened with a metal band. Khaki in color. I think this is going back. I will probally break down and buy one of TommyGunner's stocks with his excellent slide attachment. Cheers Kenneth
  21. Thanks everybody. I have an advantage. I am the operator of the kitchen, its MY kitchen as I often tell everyone. Its the only way I can have good food! I will try the oven trick this weekend. Thanks again, Kenneth
