  1. Nice post, Melvin What are the stories behind the vintage photos? Thank you, Sir
  2. Congrats, Mark I know that feeling. It's especially rewarding knowing you're holding a piece of WW2 history. I'm always humbled by what a CHUNK the M1/M1A1 is. I wouldn't want to hump that thing every day - along with all my other combat gear. Enjoy! Also - It didn't take you very long to get on target! Nice shooting.
  3. I just received this stand for my M1 made by Jon. His workmanship and service is first rate. Highly recommended! For those who are interested, my gun was described on the forum by gijive several years ago. http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13949 http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14786
  4. Bravo, sir! A very educational and inspirational story. Question...Did you do anything special to the bore of the barrel? Or did your few bursts do that for you? Thanks for posting.
  5. Received yesterday - Thanks again for the generosity. These will help alleviate a minor frustration when re-assembling after cleaning.
  6. Dave, Thanks for the education I continue to receive from this board, which was also instrumental in my obtaining an awesome M1. I'm pretty much a lurker, but I'll post more once I know everything Donation sent via PayPal. whit
  7. Greg - I'm curious, does the XX-type stand secure the mag in some hidden way that prevents the gun from toppling over? I like your nice simple designs! Thanks, Mike
  8. I liked this video and would recommend it to friends and non-gun folk interested in learning about the Thompson. A few nits - but all-in-all I thought he did a good - and entertaining - job. I wish he'd had an M1 or M1A1...but of course I'm biased Thumbs up, Hickok45.
  9. Thanks MauserMatt! Very convincing. I assume that was with the same ammo? I tend to use lower powered ammo (i.e. Winchester White Box) with the belief that it will be less stress on the gun and also lower ROF. Of course some might argue that less recoil means faster (sooner) bolt return and thus higher ROF. This discussion tends to be a can of worms, I know. But what is often omitted is the "rate of recoil" I'm not sure that it's linear.
  10. Hi brother Buzz! I also wonder the same thing...but I did the opposite - bought an M1A1 bolt for my M1 I am familiar with the particulars of complication, safety, etc. But I remain unconvinced of the affect on rate-of-fire. The discussions and experiments I've read seem imprecise at best. With my ownership, I am hoping to ascertain whether there is a noticeable affect on ROF. For a personal and peculiar desire, the slowest ROF interests me. whit
  11. Darryl, I'm afraid I don't know how old that ad is. As GIJive said, it's at least a few years old. I was searching for the right M1/M1A1 for a LONG time! whit P.S. You have a great M1! (But I confess that I like it even more in it's original unmolested form )
  12. ...the one in the link in my earlier post above. Where Colorado Class 3 offered 6276 for $20.5k. The older pics you posted are from that same ad I believe.
  13. Very interesting Darryl, So your gun is the same #6276 that appears in the old CC3 ad? But it was refinished and had new furniture installed by PK before you obtained it? Fascinating. And of course this fuels the debate as to whether it is more desirable or valuable now - or before! Good stuff... whit
  14. Along the lines of this discussion, I've kept this old link bookmarked out of a sense of admiration. http://www.coloradoclass3.com/COLORADOCLASS3/FOR%20SALE.htm The M1 advertised has interested and intrigued me. (And I believe a board member here owns - or has owned - it.) I've wondered if the 5 notches in the butt stock were applied intentionally.
  15. True...the update to the original ad which included the info about the blank-adapted barrel was a bit of a "gotcha". I sighed.
  16. Although the originality and patina of this M1 really appeals to me, the gun I actually own is a like-new USGI armory rebuild. I consider the refurbishment to be a valuable and legitimate part of it's storied history and it gives me great peace-of-mind. In any event, I agree fully with Buzz. To me the M1 and M1A1 represent the highest evolution of the platform, with all of the unnecessary, ineffective, and superfluous features removed or re-engineered to create the most effective and appropriate war weapon possible. I believe collectors will increasingly value the M1/M1A1 as having the most relevant service history and as the most optimized of Thompson SMGs. In my search I considered no others.
  17. I LOVE that! Seems like a late production M1, WWII bring-back. Appears original and correct in all respects. (Although the rear sight rivets may have been re-worked?) If it could only talk! Cool gun.
  18. Where would be the best place to procure an NOS extractor for an M1A1 bolt? I'm not sure if some of the ones I see online are modern reproductions or not. And I'd like to have confidence that what I buy is old - but not used. Thanks, whit
  19. I would be interested in one if they are in fact WWII.
