  1. I finished installing an original Cutts Compensator Pin in the replica. I am in need of the Savage Knurled Pivot Selector still. If anyone has an extra Savage Knurled Pivot Selector that they would sell, please PM me. Thank you.
  2. Here are the pictures. It is not a "mint" 1928A1 Savage Thompson, but definitely by the look at the clean-up of the receiver and metal parts it appears to be a GI War Trophy bring home (if it could only talk). It has a beautiful condition M3 Thompson sling on it. GI Jive has confirmed this one is not in the BATF registry, so no form on it. I hope you all enjoy the pictures.
  3. So how much is a mint SW unmarked XX mag going for now? Joesph12297 (Larry), Yes you should buy them if you are looking for some for your collection. IMA has them I think for $75 a piece now.
  4. Gordon was an amazing man and his fervency and zeal for Thompson history I do not think can be surpassed. I only wish I could of met the man; may he rest in peace under the clods of the valley. I am looking forward to owning his previous book. I love his Thompson reproduction items; very much attention to detail. I have somehow misplaced my replica Colt Thompson Ejector for my next project and I am going to need one! I went to Gordon's website to check to see if he has them still and the website is currently closed, just to let everyone know.
  5. MG08, This building you went wouldn't happen to be in between Ft. Rucker, AL / Daleville, AL and in between Dothan around Pinckard, AL? From the pictures and your description it sounds like it. It's on Highway134? Over the years when I was stationed at Ft. Rucker and TDY to Ft. Rucker, AL I use to travel the back way to Dothan on Highway 134 and the building like you described I would go by. Just wondering, maybe it's a small world.
  6. I think there is nothing wrong at on a REWAT for purchase. As most have already been inclined to say, as long as the process wasn't to in-depth of the DEWAT and it's an actual "Bring home War Trophy", what could be better? I mean an actual DEWAT was a war trophy carried by an actual soldier or marine in combat, that should say a large amount about history... Don't get me wrong a near perfect condition, all original parts Thompson of any of the models would be awesome and great to own, but also you can't say enough about a Thompson that actually went and deployed overseas and was there during WWII or Korea. I would guess to state though that most likely most DEWATs came from WWII. The property books weren't so tight back then... I know some will say "well how do you know if it was or not in the war". Sometimes life is a leap of faith, to me I would buy be a DEWAT/REWAT that definitely shows that condition as it would be carried everyday for a few years or buy a REWAT that is in near new/mint shape, if your going for the shear originality and shape. I would definitely buy a "shooter/collector military Thompson" first and if you can afford a high end original Colt 21 as a "Holiday Shooter/Collector" that would be the best of both worlds. I am more of the rare variety that I love the military History of the Thompson M1s and 1928s and also love the history of the Colt 21s and all the Thompsons. There is just something about it. Best of luck in your endeavors! Have patience to find the "right" one you actually want and buy a shooter/military collector grade first and then if you can endeavor for the iconic 1921 Colt to own also! I wish you the best!
  7. I can get some actual digital photographs of the Thompson found in the wall. Are people interested in seeing the pictures of that Thompson?
  8. The homeowner that purchased the home, for a remodel/resale and found the Thompson in the wall will never get the Thompson back.
  9. This was a GI 1928A1 was found in the wall of a house in Lockport, IL. I thought it could of been maybe a COLT 1928 overstamp, but from I remember and read more lately it was a mint 1928A1 Savage Thompson. It was found with about 8 boxes of .45 ammo, in the original 1940s boxes of different manufactures and some magazines as I recall. No drum with it. The Will County, IL Sheriff's Police is in possession of it.
  10. Wow! You weren't kidding! If your looking to make it look more original a couple of recommendations are: Just buy a complete NOS lower with all the parts to swap it out, unless the lower receiver serial # matches the upper receiver; if that ask PK what he can do for re-work. The stampings on the lower fire safe were re-done. The missing stampings on the right side you can ask Reconbob (bob) at phila ord to see if he can re-make the original right side markings on your receiver for you. Since PK does complete bluing jobs you could maybe send the whole gun out to get rid of nickel, etc; he also works on drums. It is cool, if your into Nickel and not original. Congratulations on your puchase! I like the original "Tommy Gun" marking on the upper receiver.
  11. Jon, Great Job! Congratulations! Wonderful work and I can see all the time you put into it. The attention to detail really paid off! I like the white lettering on the mags; I'm glad they work great for you! Be proud. Regards, Keith
  12. I thought that most of the GI stocks had the reddish hue Stain on them? the replica military dye, such as Vanderhaves Formula XIII is what some people use to get the proper color. Most of the GI stocks I have found that were original have the reddish hue stain. Can anyone else elaborate about this topic please for more input?
  13. I wonder why none of them have the reddish stain on the military stocks? Anyone?
  14. DZelenka, Only "Savage" marked "S" lower frames were serial numbered to the upper receiver. AOC M1/M1A1 lower frames had no AOC marking nor a serial # on them.
  15. Also you can contact (reconbob) Bob at Phila Ord: http://www.philaord.com/ Bob has Compensator pins machined.
  16. Well today the weather is rainy and bad in Illinois. I received my package from my good friend today and in it was my Doug Richardson made 1928A1 "Knurled" display actuator. To make this replica more proper for an early model build it needed the knurled actuator. It was no easy chore at first. I will post all the pictures below. Realize I'm not a machinist and only had a drill press at my father's but none the less it came out perfect. This aluminium replica/dummy receiver came with the steel actuator non-knurled handle installed on top. No-one including me knew how they were installed. So I keep turning it out, but it wasn't coming out; it was pressed in and with red-Loctite is what I found out after. I used the drill press and drilled a centered whole from the underneath of the receiver into the pressed in smooth actuator handle. I eventually then worked out the smooth actuator with a set of vice grips. It finally popped out and luckily I had a perfectly centered hole to start putting in the Doug Richardson display knurled actuator. I had to drill it out to the proper size to get installed and then had to counter sink/drill out a larger hole so the screw and flat washer would install and get tight to hold the knurled replica actuator handle. I used 3 carbon steel flat washers underneath the replica knurled handle to get it to the proper height, so it wouldn't be sitting low in the receiver like the other installed one. I also drilled out in the area of the actuator replica handle to accommodate the sear, so the safety would work correctly, as you will see in the pictures. I re-cleaned everything and put it all back together and the pictures show the latest. It really looks much better with the proper knurled actuator. Next will be to find a knurled Savage Pivot selector to have all the knurled parts proper and I will eventually get the Cutts Comp pin installed, when I get one. Pictures:
  17. Does anyone have pictures of the British soliders, with their thompsons and slings to post to this topic?
  18. I was wondering what sling that the British soldiers used on their Lend/Lease 1928 Thompsons and on the M1/M1A1 Thompsons? Did the British also get issued the M1A1s? I know they modified the slings and did the "British Turn" with the top sling swivel on stock and the front handguard had the side swivel installed, so I was wondering if they used the Standard Kerry 1914 sling or maybe the US M3 slings or both? Thank you for any information.
  19. How soon until you have your wood? What color stain did you go with? The original Colt stain brown color or did you go with the military red stain you like?
  20. I use regular white paint out of a spray can, gloss or flat enamel. I spray it a on plate, so I can get to the paint with the tooth pick and use a tooth pick to fill all the areas with paint you want filled. Then let it dry about 10 to 15 minutes, then use Isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel to work off the excess. You can see how good it comes out on everything. Some people buy a paint marker from Doug Richardson and that works well also.
  21. Thank you all for the nice comments. I may in the future put a serial # on it, but don't want to have to send it anywhere. Maybe Mark could help me to serial # it to match the lower frame.
