I want to thank everyone for your help and suggestions, I will be contacting the people you recommended this week. And Sig, you hit the nail on the head. That is exactly the situation with my gun. I will post when I feel I have found a qualified gunsmith familliar with Thompsons and also post the eventual outcome. Thanks again.

Five years ago I was looking to get a 1928 west hurley repaired, the word was go to Paul Krogh. Contacted Mr. Krogh and was told the wait was 5 years and he would put me in his que. I figured I could wait seeing as I had another working Thompson. On December 12th Mr. Krogh notified me by e-mail that he was semi-retiring and would not be able to work on my gun. After the shock and disappointment has started to fade I am now looking for a gunsmith who handles Thompsons ( I now realize I should have been reaching out 5 years ago). So if any of you knowledgeable fellows have any suggestions please let me know, Thanks Jeff

I guess I'm a little behind the 8 ball, but I understand Don Bell has died (unfortunately) he seemed to be a stand-up guy. Anyway does anyone know what became of his inventory. I heard EveryGunPart.com bought his inventory, but its not showing up on there website

Looks to me like like prices are creeping down, and not a lot of activity in the class 3 market lately.Could have something to do with the long wait for tax stamps.

LSU Tiger, that's quite a list! looks like it takes in most of Hollywood, at least Keanu Reeves isn't on it. I'm also not a big fan of the NRA since I don't see them helping the class 3 community, but I intend to use that list.

I had the the BATF send my paperwork back on a Texas MAC, the gun was marked 9mm & 45 which I wrote down on the paperwork,my dealer changed it to .45 cal to match the paperwork we received on the gun and it went threw fine,and I don't think it took any more time.

Paladin601, The funny thing is,the buffer and buffer pilot you show, from my understanding should go in a M1-M1A. But I just got a real clean and shiny West Hurley 1928 in,opened it up and found the buffer and rod you show in your picture! Go figure. Why would anyone change it out that way? Or do you think that's what was laying around at the factory, I guess I would find that hard to believe. By the way I was told the spring in a 1928 should be 69 coils and 11" long. The one they had in mine had 77 coils

That"s it exactly Paladin601 but I think my spring is a little longer as it almost kinks in the gun

I just got a West Hurley in and it does have a two piece buffer and pilot,I have two others that had the West Hurley parts changed out for savage parts, but this gun looks to be strictly West Hurley. The first thing I will do is change out the West Hurley parts for savage parts BEFORE I fire it,I also have a feeling the spring needs to be shortened.
