  1. I want to thank everyone for your help and suggestions, I will be contacting the people you recommended this week. And Sig, you hit the nail on the head. That is exactly the situation with my gun. I will post when I feel I have found a qualified gunsmith familliar with Thompsons and also post the eventual outcome. Thanks again.
  2. Five years ago I was looking to get a 1928 west hurley repaired, the word was go to Paul Krogh. Contacted Mr. Krogh and was told the wait was 5 years and he would put me in his que. I figured I could wait seeing as I had another working Thompson. On December 12th Mr. Krogh notified me by e-mail that he was semi-retiring and would not be able to work on my gun. After the shock and disappointment has started to fade I am now looking for a gunsmith who handles Thompsons ( I now realize I should have been reaching out 5 years ago). So if any of you knowledgeable fellows have any suggestions please let me know, Thanks Jeff
  3. Hey guys, I've got a Colt AR-15 with a papered sear done by knights armament. It's got a few issues. Does anyone know a competent class 3 gunsmith who might be able to help ?
  4. I guess I'm a little behind the 8 ball, but I understand Don Bell has died (unfortunately) he seemed to be a stand-up guy. Anyway does anyone know what became of his inventory. I heard EveryGunPart.com bought his inventory, but its not showing up on there website
  5. Looks to me like like prices are creeping down, and not a lot of activity in the class 3 market lately.Could have something to do with the long wait for tax stamps.
  6. LSU Tiger, that's quite a list! looks like it takes in most of Hollywood, at least Keanu Reeves isn't on it. I'm also not a big fan of the NRA since I don't see them helping the class 3 community, but I intend to use that list.
  7. Jon, would like to buy one of your maple mag loaders, contact me at: allutah@qwestoffice.net thanks,Jeff
  8. I had the the BATF send my paperwork back on a Texas MAC, the gun was marked 9mm & 45 which I wrote down on the paperwork,my dealer changed it to .45 cal to match the paperwork we received on the gun and it went threw fine, and I don't think it took any more time.
  9. Paladin601, The funny thing is,the buffer and buffer pilot you show, from my understanding should go in a M1-M1A. But I just got a real clean and shiny West Hurley 1928 in,opened it up and found the buffer and rod you show in your picture! Go figure. Why would anyone change it out that way? Or do you think that's what was laying around at the factory, I guess I would find that hard to believe. By the way I was told the spring in a 1928 should be 69 coils and 11" long. The one they had in mine had 77 coils
  10. Paul, I thought it was but i wasn't sure Thanks
  11. Can anyone tell me what stamp this is? I have my suspicions, but I thought I'd ask the experts.
  12. Thanks Ron for the info, I'll get contact PK for the pilot and spring
  13. That"s it exactly Paladin601 but I think my spring is a little longer as it almost kinks in the gun
  14. I just got a West Hurley in and it does have a two piece buffer and pilot,I have two others that had the West Hurley parts changed out for savage parts, but this gun looks to be strictly West Hurley. The first thing I will do is change out the West Hurley parts for savage parts BEFORE I fire it,I also have a feeling the spring needs to be shortened.
  15. Yea, When I moved out of California in 1993 there there was no motorcycle helmet law and besides the silencer ban the gun laws were in line with the rest of the U.S.but since then they have allowed the politicians (safety nanny's) who have probably never ridden a motorcycle or shot a gun take over. It's all about control and power. It's turned me into a hard core libertarian. Whenever I think about relocating, the first thing I check out are the gun and motorcycle laws in that state.
  16. Nice looking 1921/1928 Navy for sale on gunbroker #626022904 maybe a little pricey, beautiful looking gun though.
  17. I agree with you guys on the cool factor, my Thompson is definitely my favorite gun to shoot! I find it stable and easy to shoot,my son prefers to shoot the Ruger 556K, but he is 25 years old and is more used to the AR's. I also love firing my MAC-10 .45's ,definitely a crazy fun gun although not as stable.
  18. geefal I think you misunderstood my comment. I was being sarcastic.I agree with you that Ruben is always on the high end and could be driving market prices up. buzz also has a point on that subject. But I will also say that I have bought a few guns from Ruben and the quality was high. I have also bought guns from others, and once or twice been fooled by the pictures, and a couple of those guns turned out to be really rough. Luck of the draw, maybe.
  19. Ya someone should enlighten Ruben, Personally if i find the gun i want i'll pay the price as long as it's close to the market value. The 1 to 3 month and 8 month wait for the transfer and tax stamp is what kills me !
  20. Huggy, Why do you think that is that West Hurley's are going for now close to $21K ?
  21. Your right about the lack of class in today's entertainers
  22. I'd be happy if they just re-assigned some government employees to process tax stamps, this 8 month wait has to go! it only takes them 1 1/2 weeks to cash my check
