Display 1928a1 for sale at $1395 shipped I have that complete lower and it looks so minty internally. Fellow members, A few years ago I bought a display 28a1 with a lower whose serial is AO68939.. I probably will sell it but I thought how great it would be to reunite the lower it with someone who ones that serialized upper. Maybe TD might know.

I will have to check out my M1/M1a1 bolts.. I sent off a M1 to a friend who never shot one. We were going to do a trade, my M1 for his Lanchester with some cash. ,The guns in the trade were both on Form 3s so transfers were fast back and forth as he elected not to trade as he could not control the gun with its rate of fire.He was used to 9mms and a grease gun so this was way different for him. I explained that if you shoot 3-4 round bursts, you will hit what you want but a 30 round mag dump is just not going to impact in a 10 inch circle at 20 yards except in the hands of someone who has shot 1000's of rounds through one of these. I am going to shoot 3 guns and clock them with my recently acquired Pact timer and post my results. I will shoot the same ammo in a 28a1......a M1.....and M1a1. If anyone knows of springs that will shoot slower than whats in these guns ,please let me know. Thanks!!

Rate of Fire Question: I have seen in some books of a 600 RPM rate on the 1928s I have seen numbers like 800 and 900 for the M1s My rpm pact chrono never reads below 800 and sometimes as high as 900 Maybe its a spring issue. Anyone shed light on how i can get down to 600 or 700 with either a M1/M1a1 or 28a1?? Thanks

Quote: no good for anything other than a tomato stake. Cut it back an inch and keep for a spare. I will trade you two tomato stakes for it!! -
The Best Grouping I ever did was with a 1928a1 where i Looked over the rear sight and Only used the Front Sight,' I feel that the 28 has a slightly lower rate of fire and slightly more controlleable. If you just pull singles , it becomes intuitive because its telling you where to point the front sight, That being learned, apply it and you will get good results!!

Hello All: I havent shot enough rounds for scoring purposes but as one who owns both a 1928a1 and a M1a1, I find the 28 with its weight and rate of fire is more controlleable than a m1a1. My Pact Timer is not back from being repaired but I plan to shoot both guns and report back here what the rates of fire are. Even though I havent scored my targets ; the ones that i shot with my 28 are definitely better. I also dont use the peep sight but use the little notch on the top of the sight. I would like to hear from all of you who have shot both the top cockers and side cockers what your take on this is. Thanks

There is a M1a1 on GB with very little time left- ends today https://www.gunbroker.com/item/862514141 -
Maybe things are coming back. Rock Island will have 3 Colts, 2 WW2 tommies, 2 Pre 86s and 2 WH in their upcoming April Auction. No pre WW2 except a Bergman MP18 with snail drum which was the first shoulder held machine gun. At these auctions you can really get burnt unless you are there. I know of a ringed barrel on one and two dewats that were not disclosed to be dewats even though very visible in person. Guns will hold and increase in value in todays falling stock market but then so many whacked by the downturn wont be buying guns!!

Great Catch,Bridgeport28a1. My take on it if it matched would be a great shooter at prices below what WH's have been bringing on auction

I called on this and seller says the Upper and Lower halves match, serial 552,XXX i didnt know the early features, ladder sight and finned barrels were on guns that high in number Here is what he said in a e mail It starts with "S" the upper and lower serial numbers match. ThanksLuke Still a great deal IMO at less than 16k with 1k worth of extras

I just received an Austen that wouldnt run. Light strikes.Bolt would close without detonating. Tried many kinds of ammo including federal which is known for softer primers. Solution: I took a sten spring, cut 3 inches and added it onto the captured recoil spring assembly. It runs 100% now. Question: Can that recoil spring assembly be disassembled and a new spring added? 2. Are any of the sten barrels compatible? It has a cut for indexing

Wrong Buffer in 1928a1 ?
Grease Gunner replied to Grease Gunner's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
when spring tensions are increased ROF goes up so the effect that the gunmachines pilot would increase it I shot one mag thru it flawlessly but it seemed fast. if anyone wants my old gunmachines pilot, its free just pay the shipping. i have no use for it -

Wrong Buffer in 1928a1 ?
Grease Gunner replied to Grease Gunner's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I changed my 28a1 back to the correct pilot and buffer and what i took out is something i have not seen before the pilot that was in the gun actually has an internal spring.I compressed it in the last picture years ago a company called sprinco made something similar for 1911 pistols where the recoil spring guide also compressedin addition to the recoil spring Giant Panda was right on!! i will take pics of the internals and measure the hole for the pilot
