Thanks for the responses. I like when a gun comes up and a discussion is started about that particular gun. I am in the market but feel November needs to pass first. I also would like to to sell a 1928AC Tompson first.

Is it me or has there been near 0 listings for 21s for sale?

Shipping Reminder..Be Careful !
DOGLEG replied to OCM's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Bought a M1A1 Thompson from a dealer in Mississippi. FedEx shows up at my door and hand me the cardboard box and says"man that is heavy". First thing I see are the rear sights ears sticking out of the box and the front sights are doing the same thing. I opened the box and he about shits himself. At the time I paid 12K for the gun. You would think a dealer would have the common sense to ship something like that in a professional manor. Never assume and never think the other person is not and idiot. -

1921 #3992: What is that mark?
DOGLEG replied to JJX's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I had asked them if they knew whether the gun had original Colt internals. They did not know. I asked if they would take a few more pictures so I could tell. They said they would not take it out of the safe. I did not bid at that point. -

I should have been more precise with my post. I meant the fit more than anything. -

I have two signed Author presentation copies of American Thunder II. Are there any Signed presentation copies of III for sale?

Gunbroker add: "These were originally marked "Model of 1921". Later changes were made to the design and only a small handful of Colt's were modified with these changes and remarked with the new model designation "1928" Of the highly collectible overstamp guns, we have seen only a few, such as this with the "8" super imposed over the original "1". On almost all surviving specimens the 1921 was clearly milled out very neatly with the 1928 roll marked in its place. Though the overstrike such as this gun has looks sloppy it is more unusual and highly collectible." Is this an accurate description of the Colt Navy's over stamp process? I only remember seeing the over stamp and I personally have not seen the numbers milled out on a Navy. I know they did that on most of the 1928AC models.

St. Louis PD to Auction Off 29 Tommy's
DOGLEG replied to Kilroy's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
Thanks Jim. I spoke with a class3 friend of mine and he said several had try to buy these years ago. They were told those guns would never be sold to civilians. He also said several more had disappeared from the arsenal over the years. The department said it will be 6 months to a year before they are sold. So between them actually selling and ATF approval you could own one 2 years from now. Form4 of course. -
Does the barrel look correct? Hard for me to tell from the pics.
-
He is selling for his uncle and he wants 45k for this gun... ouch
-
It is an AC 1928 with incorrect sight, barrel, front wood, and refinished. At a quick glance.

Colt Thompson's on Gun Broker
DOGLEG replied to Devil Dog 1110's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
I have bought a gun from Frank (pre Gun Broker) and I have spoke with him many times. Just implying more than questioning. I am not a fan of the Gun Broker auction style on High END items. You never know who you are bidding against or who is running the price up. I am a skeptic by nature. I find it hard to believe someone is going to list a 30k item and hope it bring fair market. Just me not trying to offend anyone. If you have had success and it works for you that is great. This discussion probably belongs on a different board than this one so thank you for your responses. -
Colt Thompson's on Gun Broker
DOGLEG replied to Devil Dog 1110's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
How many people on this board are going to list any class 3 transferable gun with out a reserve and then sit back and hope it brings a good price? Just Frank?
