The1930sRust
For years I've been basically agin owning a C drum. Had one once borrowed, and it didn't run for...well, you know. I see for sale routinely C's on Gunbroker in the sub $500 range. I don't know the lineage or vintage of these. Are they kahr? Chinese? Worth anything? I assume they all likely need Merling or PK magic. Just sold a picture and may dump the folding paper into a drum (after I pay off another debt;-) Wondering if anyone can comment on the new(er) C drums? Sig
Buy a new KAHR directly from Merle and ONLY Merle. Merle the drum doc will have tweaked it to run. The 2nd item I recommend from personal experience is try it with whatever is your basic config ie. 21 or 28. Then IF needed tweak it to run in that config which could mean changing springs to find the "right" one. Once you find the "right" setup DON'T change it!!! In my case my 21 config LOVES an older spring (shorter) for some reason. If I stick a new spring in from Gordon, well in my case it doesn't run nearly as flawlessly on a C drum. My typical situation with either a Colt C drum or a Merle tweaked KAHR is 1 trigger pull = 100 rounds down range. I would NOT hesitate to buy one. In my case I rarely shoot anything but a C drum for a magazine.

JimFromFL
I didn't think Merle had any more in which you could purchase directly from him. If he still does sell them, I too would be interested in the cost. Edited February 24, 2009 by JimFromFL

Lancer
Here's a link to an old thread when I purchased my C drum from Merle when they first came out, a couple of years ago. Mine still runs flawlessly, I have had no regrets since buying it. http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/ind...t=0&start=

bug
To keep the thread on track, it says turn 15 clicks........it clicks like hell, what clicks do you count??? I'm not a C drum person but the L drum clicks once for each 1/4 revolution. I assume that the C would have a similar reference and it might be the same for all iterations. C drum =4? 6? or? Anyone? JimFromFL
So, what was the final verdict? Does Merle have any you can purchase directly from him or must you purchase it then ship it to him? Is he still in the business of fixing them?

Is he still in the business of fixing them? I have no idea whether Merle is selling drums or not. You should give him a call and see what he says. Merle is a very friendly man to talk to and I'm sure he will answer any questions you have. If it were me, I'd find the best deal I could and see if it worked out of the box, if not, I'd send it off to Merle. From what he told me about my drum, it sounded like they don't need a whole lot of tweaking and he is, in my opinion, quite reasonable.
The1930sRust
And why, to quote the original winding instructions for the C drum, will the drum "not function properly with the U.S. Navy Model and therefore must not be used with the U.S. Navy Model"? http://www.thompsonaccessories.com/images/winding4_046.jpg I am sure many of you have a 1928 and C drum. AFAIK, there is no difference between an overstamp and a 1928A, yes? Just curious.

MrBill
I bought a Kahr C drum at a local pawn shop that had a broken spring and i sent it off to Merle...a week later he called and offered me $400 for drum or $200 for repair. I sent $200 and I am very happy.Merle is a huge asset to the Thompson community.
