M1a1 Buttplate And 28 Buttplate Interchangeability

Recommended Posts

Will the M1A1 buttplates fit on the milsurp 28 buttstocks you see all over the internet?

I am doing some refinishing customizing etc on a semi auto and I have a military surplus M1A1 stock on it already but am thinking of putting one of the 28 buttstocks on if I can just swap out the buttplate and hardware.

The military manuals show different drawing numbers , so they are not exactly the same. Exactly what is different I don't know. I only have West Hurleys and a Savage M1 to look at , and I don't know how close the WH's buttplates are to the real thing. Chris

No, they are different configurations.

While both have a trapdoor, the 1928 variety has a little tab that bends over the top of the butt stock.

That "little tab" is called a "tang", I believe.
