Hummmmm....where's that calculator?... Lets see....80 cents per round... (tap, tap, tap),........times about 500 rounds per minute.... (tap tap tap)...thats $400.00 per minute to fire.... tap, tap, tap,...so thats.......(tap, tap, tap).....Hummmmmm?...About ten minutes worth of fire and I will have spent as much on amunition as I did on the gun!!!!

Why must the Gods torment me so?!?!?!?

Well Guys....I only posted this info to help those of you looking for MP44 ammo. I don't know "jason", and do respect those of you with MP44s. However, unless you're a pure collector of firearms or even a WW2 Re-enactor I don't see how owning one of these is fun at all.

We've discussed it elsewhere on this board but, the fun of ownership is shooting. That's something you can do with an MP40. A 44 ? Good luck !

Good luck on your quest for ammo but, methinks you're going to be reaming down .308 brass and training a bloodhound to sniff out your expended cartridges.

Thanks Delta; I spend a lot of time over at the 98k Mauser forum, and saw the ad for the kurz ammo too. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/unsure.gif ..It is not as bad as it might seem. Once you have the production of the kurz down, it only takes a little time......By the way, I neither use my MP-40 nor 43 in re-enactments, but my first love, the 98k...all you 'Kurz ammo need'in' guys, come on over to my house, and we'll have a Kurz mak'in class 101 !....jw http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Hey Schreck; the price is so high, I guess it is a sign of the times; But if you got a 43-44,buy taking the time to do it your -self, you won't be at the mercy of the 'dealer'.. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif .....Once done, look at a $15.00 box of 100ea,125gr, Hornady 8mm bullets, plus the primers/powder, and the time to load 100 rounds, about an hour, and you're ready to go......plus it's all non-corrosive.......This WWII/post war stuff will dry up some day too. So be ready..........jw

Sadly, I don't have a Sturmgewehr at this point. I've let a couple local ones slip by because of the high cost of ammo. Having something and not being able to shoot it regularly would bug me. A friend actually does my reloading for me. Even though her father reloaded, my wife is convinced the house will blow up with a press and components on hand. Have always wanted a STG and don't think I'll let the next one get away if I get the opportunity.

  • 4 weeks later...

I never considered NOT buying an STG/MP44 due to ammo cost.First, the combloc 7.92K comming in is CORROSIVE !!! Further,it cannot be reloaded due to primer and the fact that it is a STEEL CASSING with paint on it.

Buy formed rounds from two reliable sources:

Grant's Guns in Nevada Phone#775-577-2650

OR

Buffalo Arms in Idaho Phone # 208 263-6953

Both will resize 308 cartridges. Both will load them.BUT Buffalo Arms makes a true sized 8MM FMJ bullet.

I am testing some now including some that are moly coated. They run flawlessly.Cost for the first round?About $1.oo.Reload them with an RCBS die set and you spend maybe 12-14 cents per round. Can reload them 3 or 4 times without spliting the neck area.

Take my advise,I spent a long time both researching and helping others to make it no hassle and cost effective to shoot non corrosive, reloadable true 8MM kurtz ammo. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

If you have the dies, why are you buying cases, when you can make them yourself?.......... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/huh.gif .........jw

I thought there were two different types of dies. Dies for forming/fabricating the brass out of .308 and loading dies. I was under the impression loading dies were about $125 and the forming dies were a lot more. I would love to be wrong here.

Kurz forming dies may be out there, But by simply cutting the case with a little pipe cutter, lubing the case and running it up into the re-size die, you got the bottle-neck of the Kurz casing....Of course, that brass is really thick at this new mouth and has to be reamed out, then trimmed. I use a 8mm reamer in my little drill press, which thins out the mouth wall real well......Am I supposed to use forming dies?.....Here is a photo I have shown before........It works.......(in the jungle).................jw

opps; I found that 308/270 brass has a hard web, & is harder to work with......I like 30-06, and when I can find it 243/235Roberts,7mm, and of course 8mm brass are good too.

I also pull the bullets of the Turk & Yugo 8mm that's out there right now, and cut & form them, and when fired in the woods, I don't have to be on my hands & knees looking for the empties.... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif .................jw

Thanks gents. I'll be gettin' me some regular loadin' dies then. An acquaintance uses nickel plated brass to make 7.92 kurz rounds with. Looks really neat with the copper bullets.

JW, when you resize the Turk and Yugo, do you leave the live primers in place?
