Roaring_20
Hello everyone, Im relatively new to the forum, I would like to start with posting an enquiry,I have just bought this oiler, but surfing the web I found out it is very easy to fall in repro traps, is this nickel oiler original or not? TD.
If the oiler does not have a bright chrome type finish but a dull nickel type finish it is probably original. The reproduction oilers I have seen are chromed GI oilers and are very shinny and bright. Original Colt's era oilers have a much more dull type finish. It looks original to me based only on the pictures but I certainly want to hear from other Board members with more experience on this particular item. We may both learn something. In the interim, you can search the Board for information on oilers. I remember this topic being discussed at length in the past.
Roaring_20
Well, the oiler is certainly bright because of the nickel, but it is not a "mirror finish", much more as you pointed out, a dull, satinated surface. I also want to point out that this oiler came togheter with an original Colt 1921 buttstock
gijive
Roaring_20, I would agree with TD on this. From the pictures, it appears to be original, however, it is difficult to make an absolutely positive conclusion on such things from photographs. Flash tends to reflect off the finish and make it look shinier. Are you satisfied with the source you purchased the item from and the price you paid? In other words, does the seller have credentials and guarantee the authenticity or was it just some online auction. That should say something about whether you feel it is a fake or not. gijive
I was typing while you responded to TD. I wouldn't worry about it if it came with an original Colt butt stock. If you are certain about the authenticity of the Colt butt stock, it seems to me you should be confident about the oiler.
Roaring_20
Hello Gijive and thanks for your response too, well I have not seen many Colt buttstocks, but based on the no sling swivel slot, the (amazing) carbonia blued steel parts, I have reason to think this is an original buttstock! http://i64.tinypic.com/2emoizl.jpghttp://i63.tinypic.com/2d91mo4.jpghttp://i66.tinypic.com/m32hy.jpg Edited August 31, 2017 by Roaring_20

Bridgeport28A1
In your first picture it appears to have the remnants of a British WW2 two screw modification that the British used for reinforcing the stock. gijive
Roaring_20, Yes, that is an original butt stock.
TD.
Is that a crack in the butt stock, toward the back of the release button? Can you post a picture of the butt plate? Thanks!
Roaring_20
Yes, the buttstock is still very rock solid, but its not perfect, it has some cracks here and there. . . its also numbered 11733, i probably guess the gun would match the buttstock number? if yes, can anyone recover the story of 1921 TSMGs 11733, just to understand why the buttstock was separated from the gun. Many thanks. the main difference on the buttplate i notice between this and 1928a1's its in the cheek rest area, the shape is more flat compared to the 1928a1's. And those are also sligtly smaller, well built, and fit much tighter! http://i67.tinypic.com/o9jtog.jpg
