deerslayer
So I got in a grip to fix. The bottom end was broken off and glued back on. Where it had broken off it became apparent that the glued back on piece both appeared to be original in finish and shape to the rest of the grip it plainly wasn't part of the original blank as the grain didn't match up. It appears like the original blank the grip was made out of may have had a laminated section on the end. Of course equally possible is that somebody fixed it 60 years ago in the same way the owner and I decided. Sand a flat spot and start with new wood and shape it to fit. Adg105200
Very nice work! What kind of glue did you use? Just regular tite-bond etc? What did you use to mill the flat-bottomed hole again? Andrew

reconbob
I think you should consider getting into wood-working. Bob
Banjo
Looks great Dan. I have two Savage vertical grips that you repaired and they are holding up great. I have never seen an original Savage or Colt that was laminated so I'm going with your "60 year old fix" just amazed the glue held up as well as it did. Something new every day!
