On all of my Russian mags they are first bullet on the right. I took some newly acquired Russian mags apart to clean out Comrade Cosmoline and I could see no front/rear, left/right differences in the followers. In one case the follower was hanging up on the inner feed lips so I intentionally reversed it and now it feeds fine by hand; haven't taken it to the range yet.
