Scoobie1
DON'T PANIC, IT'S JUST A SEMI!! Didn't want the title to give some of you guys a heart attack http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Took my 1927 to the range today, put in an L drum and on the 5th or 6th round (firing slowly), my friend stopped me because something that wasn't a shell casing had come out of my gun and landed on his arm. Upon inspection it seems the lip of the bolt had been slightly dented in. The piece that came off the gun was a small piece of the receiver from the inside of the ejection port. I'm guessing the bolt kind of "sheared" it away because its a long and thin piece, not a huge chunk. I'll get pics for you guys soon so you can see exactly what I'm talking about. Last time I shot the gun was 2 weeks ago and it fired great, I think this happened today because the bolt was fine when I cleaned it 2 weeks ago. I don't guess there's anyway Kahr is going to warranty that is there? I don't remember their warranty policy & I'm in the process of looking for the manual that came with the gun. Sgt
If you bought the gun new, and had it less than a year, I'd think that it would be worth the time to pursue this with Kahr. Kahr knows the troubles with their guns, and is fairly good about making it right, at least in my experience. Maybe they add that loss in the equation. Whether they would actually replace the receiver, may be a different story, but definitely give them a try. You might try to leverage your story by emphasizing the saftety issues to them. If for any other reason, I'd think they would want to mitigate future liabilities, knowing you have a damaged receiver.
Scoobie1
So here's the pics. The one of the receiver is kind of hard to see, so I photoshopped in a thin straight line where the receiver used to be. You can see the jagged edge of the metal down toward the bottom. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l201/ej25scoob/IMG_2344.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l201/ej25scoob/IMG_2343.jpg
reconbob
If we are talking only about the strength of the receiver this is not a "fatal" flaw. If I interpret your photos correctly the sliver of steel at the bottom of the ejection port broke away. its very thin there where it meets the little cuts on the underside of the magazine cutout which are clearances for the magazine lips. If this is where the piece came from the strength of the receiver is not affected unless there is some other crack or damage. Of course, it should not have happened to begin with. The thing I would worry about is what happened to cause the "dent" in the face of the bolt? Bob/Philly O
TD.
I agree with Bob - that bolt is very interesting. I would like to know what caused that! Question: Were you using reloads? This will be the second question a representative from Kahr Arms will ask you. The first question will be, "Was anyone hurt?
Scoobie1
No, I have never reloaded my own ammunition. I was using Wolf 230 grain. I have to go out of town in a few minutes so I won't be able to call Kahr until tomorrow, I'll let you guys know what they say.
PK.
The dent in the bottom of the bolt face was likely caused by a cartridge getting under the bolt and being caught between the feed ramp and the edge of the bolt. This is usually made possible by a combination of things being out of sync, including the feed ramp geometry, mag well geometry, the magazine, the mag catch/ frame / receiver relationship being the major players. Scoobie1
QUOTE (PhilOhio @ Jul 17 2006, 10:39 AM)Like PK says... When you marry Kahr quality control and metallurgy with Wolf steel case ammo, synergistic things happen...but not necessarily good ones. Isn't that the truth. Well, I spoke to Tim at Kahr who assured me everything would be covered under warranty. Hopefully I can ship it off this week & I'll let you guys know the outcome.
