dalbert
QUOTE (Balder @ Feb 4 2007, 02:57 PM)dalbert et al, I have no reason to believe that Thompsons were used during the Norwegian campaign, please excuse me if I have given such an impression. I've never seen or heard anything to support such a theory. Balder Balder, Are you in Norway? At least 2 sources indicate "a few" (probably 50 or fewer) of the last 4750 Colt Thompsons were procured by the Norwegian Navy. The purchase occurred in late 1939, at about the same time as the first French order was shipped. At least one Colt (#12168) is in the Norwegian Defense Museum in Oslo, according to Gordon Herigstad's Colt Thompson Serial Number book. I am very interested in pursuing the Norwegian story further, as it dovetails with the French Colt Thompson story that I wrote. Balder
dalbert, Yes, I am in Norway and I have never heard of our navy acquiring any number of Thompsons before WW2. However, during and after WW2 the Thompson was extensively used in our navy, especially on MTB's which is where my M1928 Savage served. I'll see if I can dig up more information.
