MP40 on GB not mine

Recommended Posts

Huggy I will be at SAR show next week. Will look at every MP-40 there and will document the story,I know some will be a Doozy!

Like they have to enhance the gun with Viagra tabs. Or it won't sell. The one to me that looked honest as the gun. The tale of how it sat for four years in war was bullcrap That gun was shot well and carried and used for sure...

heck I can sometimes look even before I pick up to see problems. And the Seller has tall tales. I ask first question and second. how many have you seen handled and owned. That normally shuts it down quick. Unless its Bob Landies. And the other two guys are already gone. Bought my first in 1973 and messed with them since 1968. A few on the board like Tommy Nelson and Charlie might be before. but not many.....always History always fun..

That's not a refinished barrel that's a new repop barrel laser etched markings. Look how thin and even they are. Not a chance in hell those are stamped in.

0 chance....i wouldnt even bid $17,500 on it....right now its a parts gun w/ a possibility of bring back to # matching

id expect $1000-2000 to attempt to save the barrel and original parts(i have no clue what the cost would be, just a guess)....and even then something may need refinishing

an all original gun just sold for $19,500 and took 5 weeks....worn finish, but i dont have a huge issue with that

ive been proven wrong a million times before...so we will see where this auction ends.....prices on these are not consistent...

i wont over pay on a gun....ive done it before....not again

here's one that sold for $15,999 recently with all the work already done....all original, refinished barrel from rewat....why is this $15,999 and the other $23,500 + the cost to fix the barrel & misc parts

from what i can judge $23,500 is off the charts pricing for a parts gun

I just did a much more complicated barrel than that for $140 for a guy including shipping two weeks ago. Ron can tell you about all the MP-40's he see's at SAR......there might be two, but likely none. Landies is done with shows, lots of no shows at SAR next week from what I was told about the vendor list. I don't think Curt has any in inventory, nor the Todd's so who is left with inventory? I'd guess one will pop out of the woodwork maybe? Times have changed. You can talk the talk at shows now, but the odds of seeing a number of those for sale is slim and slim has left the building....effectively forever. SAR has a pretty limited lifespan at this point. Heck SAR is all but gone itself? I'm going to burn a day there, but the bar is low and I have a few side deals cooking and it's merely a meeting point. Probably my last time there and I'm sure will be enjoyable, but certainly not productive.

Quite honestly I've owned a few and handled more relatively recently and I don't recall Jack about any of them and only have a couple generic pics to have any recollection at all. The only one I can speak to any detail about is the one in the safe and I'd have to go get out it to provide any relevant detail at all. Apparently my memory is not that good?

one will show up for me.....not in a hurry....still have a secret Mac 11a1 i havent told the wife about yet....bought it locally....maybe a mp40 will show up locally so i can visit and test shoot it.....im learning and taking everything in.....the etched barrel is most likely accurate...when i look at it i can tell its too perfect......so another thing added to my list to look for....

ive put local feelers out there....nothing....

ill reoffer on the subguns one listed for $27k next week...it will be 2 months old....you'd think they would be ready to bargain further by 2 months...im not going to up my offer w/o a counter offer from them first....no reason to bid against yourself

J41 is right on that one last year total of four most ever about ten years ago over ten. Since Kathy had one Curt had one and Bob had a few even Dennis Todd.and a few outball dealers who arrived and one MP-38 and a replica mgc -68 so sure maybe two or three and one in the outland buildings.. there is over 30 tables extra this year from old attendee's not making it this year ds arms gave up years ago and Vartan from KVAR and Bob and a few others are not going.. hopefully Tommy Nelson and Chuck will have a few tables. And of course a number who have passed on.It was fun when Lamont would show all the good shooter guns..watcha dual feed from Padilla collection or Mike Free show up..

I don't know that Mike will show up, being a convicted felon and all, bad health, incarceration, etc. The dual feed may have been part of the auction of his stuff, most of which did not function? Kathy's not coming either. The last time I attended SAR prices were significantly higher than web prices overall. I agree one will likely show up out of the woodwork, but often those are pretty rough when they do show up. Nice ones have found new homes in larger collections over the years with other top tier collectibles.

Huggy did you buy the Mac from John in the email that went around? Local MP40's..... I know of 3 including mine in a 80 mile radius, none for sale. There are at least 2 up nort. WI is not a great place to shop MG's much anymore since the main dealer (like most others) is semi retired and cut his volume to a fraction of what it once was. Most of the guys are shooters, not so much high value collectibles. AFAIK there are only about 3 mid-large sized collections left in the state (more than 40 MG's......transferable)

I bought my SWD Mac 11-a1 from Randy B.

very nice guy...it was listed on subguns by Don Sheckles for Randy and sat for 4-5 months....

happen to be looking backwards and ''hey'' theres one local in WI and the asking price is good....

nice to buy local, grab the upper and do the paper work myself

something new for me....the whole experience...

I think Jerry in Fond du lac just does gun broke now.Talked with him last year said he's doing well. And Charlie it has been a few years.Time marches on and some stumble and fall.

In five or ten years the change will really be greater. some will be hitting 75 and 80...

Yeah Vinny. Especially since with a spare barrel and the ability to swap out barrels you could have a true original shooter you wouldnt be too scared to shoot. Tempting on that end alone since with an all original and matching example with undisturbed barrel nut you might not shoot it as much.

Nice rewat bring back too bad they couldnt refit the original barrel. Something i notice is this gun is probably 42-43 mfg it has the later war ribbed mag housing stamped trigger assembly but the receiver is old style hook with no notch cut out?? Thx Vinny

Sent from my iPhone

My barn find matching bring back 41 FXO/COS has the ribbed housing and later bolt handle mod with "AYF" on the end knob.

I've got one.... that's not a problem that's why I want non

Numbered tube because I have the correct numbered tube end cap and firing pin. And I hate seeing that one not matching number.

Can you put the matching end cap and firing pin on the recoil assembly you have now??
