deerslayer
Interesting that it has 9mm stamped on it. I'm not a grease gun expert, but weren't they all made .45 acp with 9mm conversion kits?
Annihilator
This gun was made to accept Sten mags without the use of an adapter, that makes it so rare Edited October 23, 2021 by Annihilator
johnsonlmg41
This gun was made to accept Sten mags without the use of an adapter, that makes it so rare That and the fact it isn't marked with a mfr. name which could have a lot of implications as to it's origin and where it was headed. NIW 9mm like that could bring 70k+ here with some research? Maybe more to right collectors? One of the rarest MG's I've seen in a long time. deerslayer
So who made this? China copy? Wikipedia seems to have some 9mm manufacturer possibilities. Edited October 24, 2021 by deerslayer
John in IN
I believe that is 1940's Guide Lamp manufactured. I think it's the real deal but I don't have any proof that I can lay my hands on.

Annihilator
It comes from an air drop in France, no chinese. Made by Guide Lamp for the OSS. The seller also has this rare silenced Hi Standardhttps://www.galeriedemars.fr/fr/armes-categorie-b/6840-4554-pistolet-hi-standard-hdm-resistance-parachutage-oss-1944-calibre-22lr-250-exemplaires-usa-2nd-guerre-mondiale.html#/10-etat-tres_bon/14-epoque-2eme_gm/27-pays-usa/35-sous_categorie-reglo_etranger/47-classification-categorie_b
Got Uzi
They did make some clean 9mm M3s for OSS drops during WWII. This is not the first time Ive seen these markings. A few years ago, a 9mm marked magwell and trunnion showed up online for sale and I wanted it badly, given my M3 collection, but I didnt want to roll the dice as to trying to import a machine gun part as it still had an intact trunnion. This one was marked as the one above but required the use of the magwell adapter. It is my understanding that GL used the same clam shell flats but marked them 9mm or 45acp. Ill do some digging in my paperwork to see if I can find this in black and white.
damifino
Take a look at the bottom edge of the mag well. In the fourth and eighth photo It looks to me like two edges, or more than one piece of steel. Not just one stamping. I can't get enough resolution to tell for sure. See what you think. John in IN
I do believe they used mag well adapters in all of the 9mm grease guns. That would be much easier than tooling up the receiver halves for a different size mag well.I think it's very visible in the galeriedemars website pictures. deerslayer
Is this GL and a serial number? That would support the guide lamp origin.
Got Uzi
Thats a Guide Lamp part/drawing number. NOT a serial number

johnsonlmg41
The whole gun was made by guide lamp, I don't think that's any secret to most of us here who are into GG. This gun would bring big money to GG collectors, but more to OSS collectors since it is significantly more rare than a DEAR gun which bring a ton of money to collectors. I don't recall seeing one of these in the OSS museums? They are that rare. Annihilator, thanks for providing the info!!! Got Uzi
Guide Lamp was the only manufacture of grease guns during WWII. It wasnt until Korea that Ithaca got involved in making the M3A1s.
