Bogart's Petrified Thompson

Crash, great story, thanks. One has to wonder why Gene didn't get to fulfill his Thompson urge years earlier when he was making "Bonnie and Clyde". By this on set photo it seems like Beatty and Dunnaway didn't want to relinquish their Thompsons and Gene seems to be thinking, " the "stars" get the Thompsons and I'm left holding this stupid Winchester". HA! Just Kidding. By the late 80's Hackman had acquired enough wealth to build his dream home. A truly beautiful house inside and out. He worked hand in hand with the architectural firm and this is the home that he lived in for the rest of his life. Thought you might enjoy a peek of his place and see how some of the wealthy film stars live. Also attached a phot0 that he signed for me 30 years ago. Terrific actor, he seemed to make it look like he was never acting, that is high praise indeed.

This photo was discussed not that long ago as I recall identifying the soldiers outfit that Bob had requested.

Lee Marvin, "as cool as this looks....."

Ron, here's a previous thread on "Hell is for Heroes". We just lost one of the last cast members, funnyman Bob Newhart. Worth another watch, grab the popcorn and tune in .https://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?/topic/15499-steve-mcqueens-grease-gun/#comment-128814 -
Shooters BEWARE of Winchester ammo!!!

Has anyone measured the brass wall thickness for comparison against other makers? -
By the time you’re kids would be getting them, they will either be outlawed or everyone will have them again…

With the production budget at over 100 million, "Public Enemies" had the luxury of filming many of the scenes at or near the original places that the original events took place. Much of the film was shot at multiple locations in my home state of Wisconsin. Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Beaver Dam, Manitowish Waters. Same thing with locations in Indiana like the Crown Point jail. If the film has the budget, they will go to significant lengths to make it as authentic as possible. I wanted to work on this film and did contact Avy Kaufman casting in NY, but unfortunately I was not as lucky as I was in getting a part in "The Highwaymen". The movie is still very good even though I'm not in it, Ha! But I think that I could have gave Depp a run for his money as Dillinger!

1941/1942 Production Drums?
Mike Hammer replied to ZK383's topic in Thompson Submachine Gun Message Board
David, are the photos from the pinned magazine guide lost forever or can they be restored? The pictures showed everything and were a great resource. MH -
Sold two big sealed tins of packs of those not too long ago. Just remember if you shoot it, it has corrosive primers and if you don’t clean your gun thoroughly you will have rust on your gun. Don’t get me wrong, that 80 yr old ammo will still shoot, but I don’t use corrosive ammo on expensive full auto guns anymore, too risky, more of a collector’s item today. You are not in Louisiana are you?

Gun Crazy- Bonnie & Clyde
Mike Hammer replied to OCM's topic in Gangsters, Outlaws & Lawmen of the Early 20th Century Forum
Yeah Ron, we would all like to believe that progress has been made as time goes on. But I can safely say that I would absolutely return in a shot to 50-60 years ago when everything made more sense. It’s a sad state of affairs in this country these days and it won’t get any better without a lot of pain that we will all go through. We are in for rough times. -
The RIA way of listing WH guns is now on GB

Some people are just not interested in keeping such artifacts. What is most important is that somebody who does value these items picks them up and preserves them rather than them being discarded into the trash bin and lost forever. -

I got a cheap frame as a temporary fix, I will still be looking out for something better. This one is still slightly too large. While I was messing with this I chipped out some of the wood where the spare inner recoil spring was housed so that I could instead carry my full recoil assembly with firing pin attached. It fits in there nicely. As Clint Eastwood said in Heartbreak Ridge, "improvise, adapt, overcome". Ha! By the way that "frame" could also be called "placard holder", "label holder", " packing list holder", and various other similar type names if you are doing searches on this item.

How about the West Hurley that sold for $32.5K, that's over 40K with buyers premium, amazing. https://www.rockislandauction.com/detail/1045/2574/autoordnance-1928-a-range-thompson-class-iiinfa-cr-mg -
Gun Crazy- Bonnie & Clyde
Mike Hammer replied to OCM's topic in Gangsters, Outlaws & Lawmen of the Early 20th Century Forum
Ahh, the good ol day’s, when we still had some freedoms. We desperately need to get back to those days. Too bad 3/4ths of the world, (including this country), has embraced communism instead. -
Your question would be bettered answered by going to the main menu on this site and asking under "The Class III" forum. You will also have to explain in greater detail about the gun in question and what you had in mind. It appears by your question that you will have to educate yourself about the legality of Class III weapons as to what is legal and what is not. We have a lot of very knowledgeable members here who would be happy in assisting you with your questions.

That's too bad, he did some good work and was easy to deal with.

Better yet, I'll just post photos here and you can download and print them. The one with the photo of the fully equipped box is the most widely seen contents holder that is found pictured in the frames on these lids. The second is an actual parts list and breakdown and it's actually more interesting than just the photograph of the contents. to me, either one would be a nice addition the box. If you download these to print I believe the actual size of the Placard holder to be approx. 6.5 x 5 inches. So the list that slides inside the holder would be slightly smaller, about 6x4.5 inches. In exchange for posting these I would really appreciate it if anyone who finds a placard holder this size to please let me know where it was purchased. Since I have been unable to find one I may end up just fabricating one instead. I never thought to ask Mr. Lake if he could supply a placard holder for his boxes but since he didn't include one when I received mine 5 years ago I suspect he doesn't have them. Mike
