  1. I'd love to see a photo of a 1945 dated MP-40. Of the hundreds of MP-40's I've held or seen in museums, I've never seen a 45 dated one. If one does exist, it would be a rare specimen indeed! Mine is a BNZ 42
  2. Finally got my NOS barrel a week ago. Mint, still in the wrapper. FYI, he still has about 10 left of the really good ones. Told him I'd pass the word along!
  3. I ordered a barrel from this guy and he seemed pretty nice. Unfortunately, he open all his remaining barrels and they had rust damage. He said I could buy one of those at a reduced price or wait for another batch he had coming in. I told him I'd wait for a NOS one. Not sure if you guys need to open the ones you have to inspect them, but that's the story I got.
  4. The ones that I've delt with had a flat spot milled where the rear sight went, but it was very shallow.
  5. Are you sure it wasn't the 81st Recon? I thought the 82nd Recon was with Second Armored. I may be thinking of another unit.
  6. This would be more of a "fun" comparison, more than anything. You could put the Thompson up against a M-16A1, FN FNC, SA-80, HK-94, or any current assault rifle and get the same results! Test the Thompson against it's contemporaries (MP-40, PPSH-41, Sten, M-3) and see how it fares! You could even test it against a modern SMG (MP5, SW-76, MAC-10) and see how it stacks up! Remember, the Thompson is 20's technology. Comparing it to modern Assault Weapons is like bringing your 5.0 Mustang to a Formula One Race. It will get around the track, but the other cars out there will do it so much better! P.S...I love my Tommygun, but have to be a realist!
  7. I've shot Aquila in my M-1 before and it seemed OK. Made my gun run roughly 600 RPM and didn't seem overly powerful. No jams or misfires I can remember! Never shot RWS though!......................sorry!
  8. The bolt could probably be repaired. If blew about a half inch section off the bottom, around the face and bent the extractor 180 degrees back. Also jammed the bolt back in the receiver. (If I can find the old bolt I'll post pictures) Bought 500 rounds of Wolf. The explosion happened on the third round. It's never happen with the thousands of brass rounds I've put through my gun. Hence my statement.............I'll never fire Wolf through my Thompson again (whatever the cause!)
  9. I've never chronographed any of the ammo, I just know what works in my gun and what ammo won't. I've never fired nickel cased ammo out of mine, so I can't comment on that. I know I'll never fire steel cased wolf out of it again. That cost me a bolt and a new extractor!
  10. I have a WW2 era M-1. Depending on what ammo I use, it will zip along at roughly 750 RPM or chug like a locomotive at roughly 550 rpm. This is with a clean gun, lightly lubricated. Damnest thing I've ever seen. My MP-40 seems to rarely change cyclic rates, but depending on what 9mm I use, it will throw the brass either nearer or farther from the gun.
  11. Sold both of my MP-44's several years ago. Was doing some cleaning out of the gun safes and stumbled upon this forgotten gem. Thought I would give you guys first shot before it goes on the gun boards. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DSC00427.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DSC00431.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DSC00432.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DSC00433.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DSC00434.jpg The first $400 + Postage get's the magazine. IM me if you are interested. Paypal or Money Order only. Thanks, Gunny
  12. Yea, thats the one piece cammo coverall that was soon to be replaced because they were found to be impractical. Imagine having dysentery and trying to get that thing off in a hurry! Your uncle would most likely of had the 2 piece uniform by Okinawa.
  13. Make sure the previous owner didn't replace the original extractor with an aftermarket one from (I think) it was IMA. I've heard bad things about those. Extractor is original. So did we ever figure out what the problem was? Did the original spring solve the problem? Inquiring minds want to know!

  15. Changing back to the original spring would be a good place to start.
  16. 20+ mags.......wow! and they all work poorly? hmmm I have seen reenactors bend feed lips to get certain blanks to work, but 20 mags worth! You know anyone one else with a MP-40? You could swap parts and mags with theirs to see if yours would start functioning, then replace the offending part if one was found. As far as piercing primers. Take the gun's recoil / firing pin assembly apart again and see if you put it together right. Measure your firing pin and see how long it is and maybe get a good photo of the firing pin protruding through the bolt face and post it here. TG P.S..what kind of jams are you experiencing? FTF (feed), FTE (extract), FTF (fire), stovepipe, etc.
  17. Without seeing or firing the weapon...here is what I would check: Functioning: 1. Crappy mags. Does it function equally bad with all mags? 2. Weak or worn springs. Wolff makes replacements for all 3. If that doesn't work, have the gun checked for headspace and proper assembly by whomever made it. Pierced Primers: 1. Firing pin protrusion out of spec. 2. Chamber out of spec 3. Shooting reloads or crappy ammo! These guns are pretty reliable and I have fired thousands of rounds through them, so it's hard to believe it works as bad as you say. Hope this helps! TG
  18. MP-35 MP-35 Expensive, but truly a "left-handed" machinegun.
