  1. While I'm not one of the big posters on this forum, it does contain tons of useful information. It would be a shame to close it down. Don't let a few knuckleheads ruin it for everybody else! Gunny
  2. I was there in 2006 with the 2nd Armored guys from Europe. We did a 2 week reenactment through Normandy, the Bocage and beyond. Like the man says, "If you haven't been.....GO!" http://www.c82rcn.com/bocage06.htm
  3. I'll give you $100 for it!.............just kidding, very nice, indeed!
  4. My father was 17 when he quit school and joined the Navy. He drove a landing craft in the PTO. He survived the war and just turned 81 yesterday. Funny part is, he still works part time. They don't make people like that anymore!
  5. Thanks. Is Charlie Erb still alive? I read a death notice not long ago for a Charlie Erb but was not sure if it was this Charlie Erb. ATF received the paperwork on the 21st of April so I still have a couple of months to go on this one. Got to dig up a bolt, the one in this MP40 is missing. As far as I know, he's still alive! This might help you out till you find an original bolt FMP Bolt
  6. Thanks. I bought a Erb tube gun last month, waiting on the transfer, just wanted to get an opinion on them. This one was finished by Erb many years ago. I bought it so I could retire my original MP40. Charlie Erb does good work....congrats on your second MP-40! (you can never have too many!)
  7. I've sold a dozen and own a Erb tube. I've never had any complaints from them. If the Wilson and the Erb are made of similar material and made to spec, they should be nearly identical. I've shot several Wilson MP-40's and they functioned flawlessly! The difference may be in who finishes the gun and how good a job they do. IMHO
  8. Holy Crap Batman!! That sounds like a bit more than just having a steel case.... Sorry bout that... Sheesh maybe a letter is in order to Wolf... Seems like others have received results.... Luckily the Thompsons a strong beast. The guns good to go now. That $50 box of 500 Wolf wound up costing me $150 once I replaced the bolt. I've learned more expensive lessons in my life! I think it might have been a squib load. The first one fired, the second one fired but the bullet might have been stuck in the barrel and the third blew the two bullets out the barrel but the force backwards was tremendous...but that's just a guess!....the barrel is not bulged luckily!
  9. All I know is my M-1 will gobble up any brass .45 made, but I got cheap one day and bought 500 rounds of Wolf .45. The third round blew the bolt back, blew off a 1/2" chuck of metal off the face of the bolt, bent the extractor 180 degrees back, jamming the bolt in the rearward postion. The case disappeared and no bullet was left in the bore. I still have 497 rounds of Wolf sitting on top of one of my safes! That was 3 years ago! However, their 5.56 x 45 works like a champ in my 16.
  10. Since when has the Dems cared what the people want? They know what's best for us....just ask them!
  11. My copy is the same. I also noticed that several photos are not labeled correctly and the cover picture looked unusual ( paratrooper holding a Thompson, but wearing Garand pouches) ....but hey, it's a great reference book and I'm glad I bought it.
  12. I called my examiner once and I heard music and laughing in the background. I just made a comment that it sounded like they were having a party. The lady got pissed and told me that they take their job very seriously. I told her, "Sorry, just trying to make small talk!" "Can I speak to Inspector So & so?"
  13. These are pretty close: http://www.kyledesigns.com/product/7DAYPILLBOXES http://www.kyledesigns.com/product/7DAYPILBOX
  14. Try to find: U.S. M1 Carbines, Wartime Production by Craig Riesch 5th Edition Revised And Expanded North Cape Publications, Inc. Very informative!
  15. Try Charlie Erb...rumor has it, he has a barrel load of registered tubes just waiting for parts kits! Sorry, don't have his number handy though!
  16. Don't feel bad, I do German as a primary impression. Here's what I carry most of the time: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff74/GunnyB2007/mp441.jpg Yea, marginally cooler!
  17. I've been to several WW2 reenactments in Europe ( 2 week convoys). When you see Europeans and Americans together and even though we were all wearing the same uniforms (they do 2nd Armored) you could spot the Americans a mile away. We slouch, we swagger, we're loud, we're rude.........after you've been there a while, it really starts to stand out. That's why they invite us over there. They can put on the uniforms, drive the vehicles and carry the weapons, but they want to watch how "real" Americans behave.
  18. I'm pretty sure it's a legit photo. Too many things "wrong" for it to not be. I can explain away a lot. The guy in the british smock could easily have gotten US gear. We lost a lot of guys and he could easily have picked it up. The brits also had thompsons and m1 rifles. It's possible he just happened to get one. Also, the one guy's eyes are closed, the barrel is turned right at the camera, and his knees are scuffed. There's a shadow who I'm guessing is the cameraman. I don't actually think a staged photo would have something like that either. OBTW, I don't think that's tape. If I had to wager I would say it was some form of binding wire. I've seen it on some enfields and a couple of m1 rifles. I think the pic is just far enough to not make out the individual tines of the wire. I've got no idea where to get it but I see it on old british rifles at gun shows all the time. If anyone has any idea what it is please let me know. Never said it wasn't a real photo, I'm just saying they look too clean to have been in combat. The guy in the British smock is definitely a American. He's wearing M43 pants and you can see his M43 tunic collar and wool shirt. He also "stands" like an American. If you blow the photo way up, the binding still looks like tape or a metal band. The Brits would bind their Enfields with wire for Grenade Launching purposes. Keeps the stocks from blowing apart. The Middle guy has an American flag sewed to his jacket. You didn't see alot of that after Normandy...another oddity!
  19. The guy second from the right has a shoulder holster .45 rig. You can see the pistol butt on his chest. Definitely a period photo. The three guys on the right have fairly clean uniforms, so either they just got new ones or they are replacements. They are also wearing Jump Boots. By this time most paratroopers had switched to double-buckle boots. IMHO
  20. I just rewatched Uncommon Valor last night. It's got some Thompson action in it. They're mostly mix & match looking Thompsons, but Thompsons none the less!
  21. Went to my annual New Years Eve MG shoot. Included some photos. Note the 1928A1 center of table http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DCP_0976.jpg That's my M1 Tommy, center of table http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DCP_0975.jpg Note MG42 center and M60 in the foreground. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/DCP_0974.jpg Also there: 3-MP40's 4-M16's various kinds 2-M60's 1-MG42 1-MP5 2-AK47's 1-M79 1-XM148 ...and various other weapons. It was a blast! :woot:
  22. I don't see any arsenal marks and have not seen any markings on the barrel. The original bolt was an AOC, but it has a Savage M-1 bolt in it now. (the original bolt was destroyed by WOLF .45...thank you!) and the gun shoots flawlessly (with the right ammo). The gun is blank adapted, but still shoots fairly straight with live ammo. Bottom line...it may not be a uber collectable, but it is a Thompson and I got it at a great price, at the right time. If I wanted to buy one today....I couldn't do it!
  23. Thanks for the Info...I'll look into it after the holidays, when I get a few minutes to myself! Back to my original question......in everybodies humble opinion, is my upper a AOC or a Savage?
  24. I don't think so, but then again I've never taken the barrel off. I'm not sure why the allen set screw is there. If I have time I will look more closely at it. When I bought it from it's previous owner, the price was so low, I just told him I would take it on the spot. Now 7 years later the same guy's getting a WH 1928.
  25. The AOC Stamp http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/AOCSTAMP.jpg The GEG Inspector stamp http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f293/Wol...gZ/GEGSTAMP.jpg I was wrong about the lower. It's definitely a Savage. Sorry about the crappy photos...I spend all my money on ammo!
