  1. On my last Thompson transfer, they sent it back because on model, I had put "M1 Thompson". They made me change the model to just "M1". I don't know if that is something new, because on the form 4 before me, it was listed as "M1 Thompson". On the 1928 that's in pending right now, I listed the model as a "1928A1". They are getting more picky in my opinion. I think it's to get everything uniform, eventually.
  2. They will get a good price on this one, it's pretty.
  3. I think I speak for every board member when I say that we don't want to spend time in a federal penitentury. It ain't worth it. No matter how short the time. You still lose your gun rights, freedom, savings, property, etc.
  4. Yeah he got 2 1/2 years, but it appears they were after him for more than just one unregistered machine gun. It would appear the federal government got what they could get.
  5. I remember when virtually everything that was being imported from Japan was junk or at least considered as much.
  6. The ones I've seen were dropped because of more serious charges. It's usually what they did with their illegal weapon that was more important to prosecutors.
  7. He edited it all away. Me thinks this is an unregistered contraband weapon. Lots of those out there...
  8. The trend graph on NFA tracker appears to be on a downward angle, which is great. I have another Thompson in the pending pile as of May 7th, just wonder how long this wait will be. Form 4 individual, C&R.
  9. I got my M1 Thompson (the nickel plated one) last year for 12k, and I've put about 2k into it to make it look totally original. That kind of profit margin almost makes me want to sell mine. Almost.
  10. The bluing that is on the original Colt Thompson's, which I believe is called "Carbano Blue", has not been used in probably 80 years. The method that was used to obtain the beautiful blue that's on the original Colt's is still proprietary to my knowledge. Dulite isn't as pretty in my opinion. I have a '28A1 in pending right now, and I'd love to get it blued like an original Colt, but nobody does this type of finish that I know of. BTW, this M1 shoots great. Took it to the range on Saturday before last, and ran a few magazines through it. Not a hiccup at all.
  11. Been crazy busy the past 2 weeks so haven't really had time to respond. Dulite was used as the finish. Removing the nickel plating was done by the same method to put on the nickel, except to reverse the polarity. Reverse electroplating I think it's called. The bare metal I'm told looked really clean after it was draw filed perfectly smooth. I took a few pictures with my cell phone but they are not that great. Will post here. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173058.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173053.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173048.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173046.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173033.jpg
  12. This happened to me as well (fraudulent ad) when I sold my MK760. Two other ads sprung up and my pictures were on the ads, taken straight from Gunbroker where I'd listed it.
  13. I got mine today as well. I plan on keeping this one.
  14. Thanks! I will bring it to the match in 2 weeks! Should be fun!
  15. I've seen pictures of that gun room, if not Heston's, who's is it then? I'd buy that stock if it were offered. It's stunning.
  16. I have all the parts that were originally attached to the now dark blue receiver, in the finish as shown above. This includes the hybrid foregrip, lower receiver and stock, and barrel. I plan to sell them as I don't see that I will have a need for them anytime in the future. The only thing I plan on keeping for sure is the 30rd nickel plated magazine.
  17. Just got it back yesterday morning, and I've been at work since then. So no. I will try to make it to the range this week, will report.
  18. BWE firearms here in Longwood Fl. He does really great work.
  19. I still have the chromed '28 barrel and compensator, plus the chromed lower available if you're interested. I wanted mine to be like my dad's in WWII.
  20. Most here on the boards recall the M1 Thompson I purchased that was all finished in shiny nickel with a 1928 barrel and compensator. It has been reborn. Here are a few before and after pictures. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20131205_182953.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20131205_182945.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145435.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145420.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145604.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145625.jpg
  21. Interesting. If true, that "could" possibly mean that if a department had an original Colt Thompson, and have paperwork showing that they originally owned it as new, then it may be added to the register if the proper lawyers and channels are accessed? I see this as an extension of what you said earlier. I mean it's along the same lines of thought.
  22. I'm a fireman and my department certainly doesn't have a Thompson or any other bullet hoses... Should I put in a request? Sean Galt was the dealer I purchased the gun through, he works for the Fire Department in Seattle, but the gun was a Seattle PD gun. I bought it last year for 28.5k. All Colt internals, not molested. I just have to wonder how this other transfer is occurring. It doesn't make sense to me. Either the gun is registered with ATF or it isn't. And paperwork should exist if they say it's registered. The only thing I can figure is that the Sheriff's department has paperwork, showed it to ATF, and ATF can't locate their copy. Otherwise, it's a whole new ball game.
  23. I'm really finding this confusing. How could the ATF acknowledge that the gun was registered but could not find the paperwork? The fact that they said the gun was registered in itself indicates that some kind of paperwork exists. If it doesn't, then they are opening a whole big can of worms, in more ways then one. It would indicate to me, that they are allowing NEW registrations of existing guns, on a case by case basis. My gun was purchased by a dealer who worked for the fire department in Seattle that had the dealers license, just to sell the gun for the department. Seattle was the original buyer of my '21AC. I don't have the original registration paperwork, but I suspect I could do a FOIA search on it. But, I really don't know if this gun was ever properly registered prior to the sale to the dealer and then to me. Now, if this gun was not "properly" registered, but ATF is allowing the transfer to a dealer, then a private sale, would it not be possible that they would allow other original Thompsons owned by departments to sell them as well? I know of another '21 that a department owns, but the cops I have talked to say they think it's not registered with ATF.
  24. I can get around 1500 rounds of .45acp ammo in a 50 cal can when I'm doing my reloading. And it weighs a ton. No way I could have something like that in a theoretical drum and shoulder it. A hundred round drum is damn heavy as is. Nicholas Cage fired so much during the battle scenes in Windtalkers I don't think he could carry that many L drums.
