  1. That one does seem expensive. I am still kicking myself over missing out on the one you linked to in post #17. According to my measurements, 34" would be the minimum for an M1A1 with stock attached.
  2. Well I didn't end up getting that case on eBay. I did not pay close enough attention to the closing time and missed that someone had outbid me. Too bad since it went cheap. Yes I have posted a few times on RFC, under the same screen name, mainly CZs, 10/22s and lately ARX 160-22.
  3. Thanks Uncle Dudley, that case would be the perfect size for me. I would love to do something similar to your case in post #3 for my '28 and Sten:
  4. There are 2 on Gun Broker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=545928825 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=546099012
  5. Congratulations, It looks like a real beauty. Please enjoy it on behalf of those of us who cannot own such nice toys
  6. Warren and/or Deerslayer; I wonder if either of you would be interested in building some modern, generic storage/transport/display boxes with customizable interiors. When I say modern, I mean not designed to resemble a specific historic box, and using readily available inexpensive hardware, maybe biscuit joint corners instead of dove tail joints, etc, in order to keep the cost down. Something like what I describe in this thraed: http://www.machinegunboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18983 I was considering building some for myself, but would have no interest in building them to sell. Also, knowing me, it will be years before I get around to actually completing a project like this Cheers TEG
  7. OCM: Thanks swat12: Thanks for posting your picture - as to why mine are not showing up for you, I'm not sure... are you using a phone to access the site by any chance? I believe that some devices have issues with photos. My photos are hosted on PhotoBucket, have you had issues with PhotoBucket before? Cheers TEG
  8. It looks to be well worth the wait, she is a beauty, congrats!
  9. All 3 of my Thompsons are Savages. So it sounds like from what you and Bob are saying, the M1 may be the original Dulite finish. That makes sense to me since it is numbers matching and it shows only minor wear, also I can't find any obvious nicks or damage that appear to have been refinished. On the other hand, as DZelenka mentions, there are stamps on the M1 that would have been applied after it was finished, but there is no finish loss visible...I'm told this is a Birmingham proof mark from 2007: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6827_zpshifzrana.jpg
  10. Thanks Bob and Buzz; So if the M1 is parkerized, would this mean it has been refinished? Here is a closer look at the M1A1 finish, (M1 on left, M1A1 on right): http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6847_zpswgafo5xk.jpg
  11. Would anyone care to provide an educated guess on the finish of these guns? A) M1 - my uneducated guess is Dulite: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6820_zpsu4tkzmi6.jpg B ) M1A1 - my uneducated guess is well worn parkerizing: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6869_zps7rixdkno.jpg C) 1928A1 - I am thinking Dulite receiver and polished blue barrel and Comp? http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6885_zps3yrwvbhw.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6879_zpsri3twfg2.jpg
  12. Thank you Uncle D, I did some research on the meaning of the various marks and numbers, but somehow missed the relevance of the "j". I had figured out that fxo = Haenel ... and cnd = Krupp (subcontractor) ... and Eagle/WaA 262 = cnd I also looking into the mag that came with the MP40: kur 42 & Eagle/WaA 815 = Steyr, type B ribbed The one mag I kept from my MP38: 98E 41 & Eagle/WaA 815 = Steyr, type A, after ribbed http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=magazines
  13. Thanks Robert. This was a full auto, vet bring back, owned by Joe Salter (a Canadian who has a dealer licence to own prohibited firearms) as part of his personal collection. I purchased it and had it deactivated by Collectors Source. They did a decent job on the deactivation, but i am not very happy with all the vise jaw marks on the gun that were not there prior to deactivation
  14. Thanks EME ! No this one was purchased from a fellow CGN and MGB member. I have been looking for a 1928A1 for a long time. The only "affordable" 1928's I have seen on CS lately have had the magazine welded in place and I refuse to own one of those. This one has a movable bolt which is an upgrade from my M1 and M1A1 that are both welded. Cheers TEG http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6886_zpsoh0bkk1h.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6878_zpsvwpslu2f.jpg
  15. I took some measurements today and came up with some approximate case sizes: 2 at approx 34" x 15": http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/Dewat%20SMGs/IMG_6912_zpsjnwjmqt5.jpg and 3 at approx 28" x 15"; http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/Dewat%20SMGs/IMG_6909_zpsvaztpe9u.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/Dewat%20SMGs/IMG_6910_zpsv2pohni3.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/Dewat%20SMGs/IMG_6911_zps5wsf1rms.jpg
  16. The MP40 arrived in the mail on Monday. I finally have had a chance to take a few pictures: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/MP%2040/IMG_6897_zpscpqd8ucd.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/MP%2040/IMG_6905_zpsj8sidbtj.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/MP%2040/IMG_6906_zpsfjs7ztgd.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/MP%2040/IMG_6907_zpsrpakb4ty.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/MP%2040/IMG_6908_zps7tfgikaf.jpg
  17. This 1928A1showed up in the mail yesterday: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6874_zpsakvmndo6.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/1928A1/IMG_6894_zps7v1vmxlo.jpg
  18. Thanks Roscoe, I knew that - but I type and think at different speeds which sometimes has unintended consequences I have corrected the post. Your link also contained this picture, which is very similar to what I had in mind. Not so much a reproduction, but a very practical modern storage/transport/display box: http://www.bergflak.com/images/mpb18.jpg
  19. Thanks Uncle Dudley, you have some great cases. You have inspired me to try to find some existing cases to repurpose, rather than building from scratch. I LOVE this one:
  20. I have been reading several threads, with great interest, recently regarding the original Thompson transit chests and various reproductions. It occurred to me that a series of modern (ie: non-reproduction) storage/display boxes might be just the thing to store a collection of Thompsons and other smg's and also allow for display of these firearms and accessories at gun shows, etc. Most of the original and repro chest i have seen so far store the Thompson in a vertical orientation, like this: http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/TW56/USMC%20TSMG%20Chest%20complete/IMG_8670.jpg http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/attachments/world-firearms/320365d1331856925-british-homeguard-thompson-case-dscn2367.jpg While this works well for storage and transport, it is not ideal for display. I am thinking that a horizontal (flat) format would be better for displaying the gun and accessories. This MP40 transport box is more in-line with the orientation I have in mind: http://www.bergflak.com/images/mpb9.jpg I am wondering if anyone has built anything similar or has suggestions or examples to share. I have been searching the internet for ideas, but have not come up with many ideas, other than the above. In my case I would be building 5 similar boxes, for an M1, M1A1, 1928A1, MP40 and Sten + accessories for each. Thanks, in advance, for any ideas or suggestion you may have to share...
  21. Here is my attempt at some WWII Thompson & Accessory tabletop dioramas: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6858_zpsxbw3gahd.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6859_zpstiuahokh.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6861_zpswapu72lc.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6864_zpsunmxjfkr.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6866_zpsuqqfzpu5.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6868_zpso8l8vvsk.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6869_zps7rixdkno.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6871_zpsjgybtkss.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y539/MarxF350/Firearms/M1%20TSMG/IMG_6872_zpsdqqmfkuf.jpg Click on each picture for a full size image. I would appreciate tips on lighting, composition, etc from anyone with experience in this sort of photography, and please post your own pics of WWII Thompsons and accessories, etc. Cheers TEG
  22. Thanks, but no, unfortunately I am not one of the lucky few. All my WWII SMGs are deactivated. However I hope my next trip to the US will include some full-auto range time. Cheers TEG
