  1. Thanx for conformation. Sell er probably doesn't look at the parts he sells with any care. Guess it could happen to anyone if they arn't paying attention. R/s, Hiller......................
  2. You don’t see the wear on the right and left ears from use? I’m not questioning if it will work. I have several others with the Same wear pattern. It looks like it has already been working and not new was my question. R/s, Hiller………
  3. This Blish I bought was advertised as nos. It looks used to me. Am I crazy? Please advise, R/s, Hiller………..
  4. Forum won’t work for me either. R/s, Hiller………
  5. As old parts dry up and become less available you'll see things from the bottom of the barrel for sale. It would be nice to see plenty of minty gentleman deals around but those sort deals have dried up in almost all areas of firearms collecting. R/s, Hiller.......................
  6. Made a receiver wrench and it worked great. Got the Barrel indexed properly. R/s, Hiller...................
  7. Story is it was taken apart for the purpose of reverse engineering project. Then never reassembled. R2s, Hiller..................
  8. I did the google. Found some good resources. Just looking around for experience from others so I make sure I dont do anything stupid. I did get a phone number from a fellow with bar knowledge. Looking forward to a quick chat with them maybe next week. R/s, Hiller.................
  9. I dont plan on using a monkey wrench and hammer for the job. Got a barrel vise fabricated. Working on a receiver wrench as we speak. Although depot repair manual calls for a big open ended wrench for the receiver. I believe its similar to other usgi barrel of installations. Align the draw marks while keeping in mind the ft. Sight keyway alignment. Make sure Barrel draw is not too much or too little. Like the m14 barrel. I do have a lathe to adjust the barrel shoulder if needed as well as a finish reamer in -06. If I get time this weekend Im going to try threading the barrel in by hand to see how close the draw marks are. Hopefully they are close and no machine work will be needed. R/s Hiller...........
  10. "Buy or download a GI manual." That I do have. Wanted to make sure there wasn't something odd about these builds that I might screw up and wanted to check first. R/s, Hiller........................
  11. Recently got my form 4 appoved for a m1918a2 royal typewriter bar. The weapon is in pieces, completely stripped apart. I've never put one together. I have built m14's, garands, m1 carbines, 1903a3's. ect. I've got multiple barrel/action wrenches. headspace guages, BAR books, ect... So I feel confident I can build this one. I thought I'd check here on the possibility some one here might have some experience with the BAR and offer their wisdom. Thanx, R/s, Hiller......................
  12. Had the thompson out at our annual night shoot. Thought I'd share a couple videos with you all. R/s, Hiller.............................. Video_1.MOV Video(2).MOV
  13. I don't know. I'll have to take a close look at it next time I clean it. When I bought it it wasn't advertised as a rewat. R/s, Hiller..............................
  14. I don't think I have a before picture. If you click on the picture I attached to this post of the lower frame/mag catch area you'll see little or no gap between the hole in the lower frame and the mag catch titty. The titty is positioned as far up in the hole as possible without binding. If you look at the bottom of the hole/titty you'll see a sizable gap. For me getting the mags up as high in the gun as possible without interfering with the bolt/action made all the difference in the world. I'm not recommending this fix for anyone else. Wanted to share my experience as food for thought. R/s, Hiller.............................
  15. Had fun figuring out this m1928a1. It would run one seymore 30 round mag that came with the gun some of the time but would jam on occasion as well. I thought maybe try some different 30 rounders. So I ordered a few from here and there. Some seymore, some crosby. None worked well. Jam, jam, jam. So next I saw some folks recommending a recoil spring replacement. So I picked up a few recoil springs. Tried them with no luck. Same trouble jamming. I found a member here selling an anvil for 30 round mags so I ordered one and re shaped the feed lips on all my mags except the one that halfway worked. You guessed it. Still jamming.I really felt the bolt was traveling over the rim of the cartridge. There was a gap between the top of the hole in the lower frame and the top of the mag catch button. Not much. Say maybe 1/16", 1/8"" at the most. Didn't seem like much. Thought I'd try to close the gap some. I removed the mag catch and gave it a bent. I thought it would be hard to bend. Mag catch looks very strong. It was alot easier to bend than it looked. Infact I over did it and had to un bend it till The nose of the mag catch just fit and worked free. That fixed it. That little bend did it. All my mags work perfect. Infact I have had no failures of any kind. I've tried hollow points, wad cutters, ect... the gun eats anything I feed it now. Been meaning to post my results for a bit now. Thinking maybe my experience might help someone else sometime. I've since ordered a new mag catch but don't plan on using it unless I have problems with the one I bent on down the road. 16. Thanx for the heads up. I got one. R/s< Hiller,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  17. Isn't the only real danger to a thompson a squib load in full auto? Otherwise mine seems to be sherman tank tough and I'm not afraid to shoot anything out of it. although I've never shot steel case from it. All I've ever shot from my thompson is my carefully handcrafted reloads. I'm not sure I want to own a firearm I'm afraid to shoot. R/s, Hiller...................
  18. Mine usually sleeps in bed with me. Starting to re-think that though. The thompson has been hogging the covers lately. R/s, Hiller....................
  19. Isn't ima sold out of these? R/s, Hiller..........................
  20. Is there a book anyone could recommend for gunsmithing the 1928? Something in the order of the kuhnhausen sreis of books. Or even something close? Ilooked in the FAQ section and didn't find what I was looking for. R/s, Hiller........................................................
  21. Thanx, I'm on it. R/s, Hiller.........................
  22. I would like to get a new buffer disc. Mine seems ok but it's getting awful dry and is hard as a rock. I just know it's going to crumble to pieces when I least expect it. So I thought now is a good time to try and find a new one. I haven't had any luck at the normal 1928 parts outlets so I thought I'd try here. R/s, Hiller..................
  23. Ooops, 1928 buffer. R/s, Hiller........................
