  1. I do not like the liability of giving out grains lets say its around 19 grs, others swear by other powders, my reloading mentor, ( in heaven looking down ) always said to use one powder for many calibers, it cuts down on cost and storage. In these times he was right, I assume he would never have thought things would be as they are now. a quick google search will show numerous formula's/powders for 8mm kurz
  2. its good to see pitfighter here, neat picture Jesse anyway to answer the OP's questions these mags that BRP had were modified to shoot/hold only ten rounds and had a rivet to prevent the follower from going down further, where they came from I do not know, but they have had several runs of them for sale. they have a hole in the back of the mag, they were all wartime mags. but over priced for me I am still finding mags for under $ 300.00, one must be persistent, . Since I do not need more mags and refuse to use repo anything. This is how I did it. I placed ad's on ALL the firearms sites, in the WTB section. You would surprised how many mags are floating around owned by folks, who do not own a MP-44 or PTR clone. I recently picked up a East German one. There is a guy called panzer, he took this advice and picked up a few mags cheap recently for reloads I use 308 range pick ups reformed, commercial brass works best and open up the throat, I liked east german fodder when it was cheap , but those days have sailed. also Graf's had tons of pri primed brass up to recently & projectiles & I use 4227 that's still available if one looks hard enough
  3. I would have sent it to Pete, reloaded ammo also reformed 308 brass works better, the case throat needs to be opened. heck Pri primed brass was for sale for sometime until very recently at graf;s
  4. These are fake per claus's website, this set was posted on GB forums last week. instead of doing the required research and believing the story it gets posted here rule No.1 never believe the story. rule No. 2 do your research when buying items regularly faked, unless you have money to burn these maybe post war czech with fake WW2 factory code
  5. it pays to be persistant, lots of folks do not have the focus they post a want ad and when it goes un-answered they disappear, my persistant wants are on a post it on the monitor so i do not forget to check good job & nice original find
  6. as noted above its the challenge to re-build 2 things against me re-doing this classic 1) Form 4 2) Price - over 3K???? shame I have the extra parts to get her up and running again I rebuilt a semi reising M-60 in worse condition, thank god, at that time spare parts were plentiful then
  7. I refuse to buy replica's or repro parts. i refuse to support that industry. If you can afford a thompson you can certainly afford to get a real sling there are quite few original kerr slings for sale on GB. I picked up two last week. here and on other site's are instructions to proper set up the sling there is also a a Thompson canvas thread in the sticky's to help you identify the different varieties
  8. no! I have not, do you have his contact info or anyone else Thanks
  9. rather than start a new thread thought I would revive this one I too am looking for a 1928 rocker pivot , condition is not a factor , it only needs to be functional not worn Sarco seems to be the only ones who have them I tried all the vendors in this thread and extensive google/.chrome search does any one have a spare they would be willing to sell PM me Jack
  10. agreed I had to replace the recoil spring after my bumper plug broke get extra's on that score get extra's of everything
  11. Thanks Bob so these parts should be Blued ok thanks again Jack
  12. I have one blued early rifle with the fins and S & P proof, I recommend you get plenty of spare parts, especially the end cap if it had a fixed pin convert to movable end cap pin and get recoil springs, etc these are fun enjoy
  13. Hi I just purchase a apex 1928 stock complete in good condition. I wanted the metal parts to retro fit another original stock I had purchased in the late 70's. As I removed the cosmoline, I found the black paint literally came off. I then pulled my lend lease kit out of storage and low and behold the buttplate and sling swivels were also painted and it was also flaking the apex good stocks are dirty and lots of cosmo & some light rust , I disassembled the parts to remove the remain gunky cosmo and removed the light rust with bronze wool the buttplate came out nice as did the stock attachment setup. ok so now I have bare metal ??? no bluing!. I noted several parts of the stock release unit are blued others not my question is was the metal on original 1928 thompson stocks blued or painted ????? Thanks
  14. Hi I am looking for a original or repro of MP-44/STG-44 front sight block and gas block with or with out pins let me know what you have always looking for East German Lugers & holsters pm me for e-mail address
  15. Apex has spare MP-38/40 parts available get them while you can. I have never experienced a problem with Apex. I also would not expect minty mint parts, they have magazines also http://www.apexgunparts.com/new-products/
  16. when carding with rust blue it is best to use a coarse cloth and brass wool, if one has done extensive rust bluing you would know this. it may take numerous attempt to get the proper finish one desires, but steel wool only removes what you just put on. while coarse cloth or bronze/brass wool does not remove the coating just the excess. steel wool digs in to the finish. as noted bronze/brass wool can leave a copperish residue. this will come off with oil and rag next I will read its ok to use a brillo pad again use what you want
  17. do not know why your refuse to take valid advice , but heck there your mags right
  18. I would not refinish the mags take some brass/bronze wool from brownells and your favorite oil take the rust down the wool will not harm the surrounding bluing and just keep well oiled not use steel wool? hard to tell but the reciever/barrel marking look military P & dot is there another letter also besides the P
  19. do not know if its against the rules but I have been following this thread on these http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1860218_ITALIAN_BM59_kits_hitting_surplus_market_.html&page=1
  20. the title says M-60 stocks the photo link says M-65 stocks I thought M-60 and M-50 stocks were the same
  21. Tom ( if I may call you that) Thank you I look forward to reading the book it will broaden my horizon, lot to learn even at this late stage. the question about the pouches came from a add I saw for P-37 pouches for sale, i got to thinking about seeing and hearing about the use of british mag pouches for the thompson and M-3 and wondered if this was standard or emergency use for lets say D-Day. Before I asked the question I did a exhaustive google search and came up with references to this site, of which I am and have been a member of for years and to the Karkee website. who link I posted in my original post so I posed the question if anything to get folks to discuss this and add additonal accessories to our collect if possible Jack
  22. more of a reising / mp-44 guy but decided to get a copy, thanks for reposting
  23. Hi couple questions I see there is a P-37 pouch listed on the site with two buckles on the front bottom in the thompson wed gear section I read a post here about a member who has a similar pouch only with a lift dot clasp then I found this site http://www.karkeeweb...37_pouches.html and they show a completely different pouch I also thought the British Pouches used with Thompsons in the US Army had shoulder straps I am a little confused as to what would be the appropriate pouch, if there such a thing sprat ( jack)
  24. yes great idea for those clamoring for mags, I got one of those cheesy ones SARCO was selling, great for a display mag useless otherwise. my only imput on the christy mags is they are too long for range shooting
