  1. I don’t know how many, if any, knew Dr. Lawrence Heiskell. Lawrence dropped from a massive heart attack about two weeks ago, and passed away Saturday morning. (Oct. 1, 2022.) His funeral service will be at his home in Rancho Mirage on the 15th. He had a fairly sizable collection of TSMGs (and an equally impressive collection of Reisings.) Many of his guns appear in several of our collector books
  2. Another Irish Sword. No idea on the serial number though; I spoke with the docent in the office next to the display and he had no idea either. Regardless, this one is on display at Caernarfon castle in Wales, in the Welsh Fusiliers’ museum as part of a display of weapons seized from the IRA.
  3. Intersting thread. - I’m headed to Matewan and McCarr Thursday morning. A close friend has a Baldwin-Felts Thompson. I’ll see if he’s comfortable sharing photos or the number. As an aside, my great grandfather was shot and killed by a Baldwin-Felts man at the Dunglen Hotel, just across the river from Thurmond. My great grandfather’s name was William Page Settle and he was a miner. edited to add the serial number is actually show in Chip’s attachment immediately preceding this post.
  4. There’s no mystery to removing the ejector. Slide a business card under it so you don’t scratch the receiver and then simply unscrew it. No big deal. FWIW I can’t install my Ciener kit without removing the ejector.
  5. Nice guns, Albert. I have a couple dozen...mostly Erfurts. No Swiss, no Krieghof or Vickers either. Only one Simson and three (?) Mausers. I do have a couple commercial guns: a 1906 AE and the typical DWM “Alphabet.” Likewise, I have the requisite nickle plated P.08 (1915 DWM) everyone needs in their Luger collection.
  6. I'm not Arthur, but I collect Lugers. Pre-war Lugers do exhibit a halo effect around certain numbers that were stamped after the gun was blued, most notable the barrel and frame serial numbers. The halo results from metal displacement and the consequent disruption of the finish. A refinished gun will not have this halo effect even if the metal was not ground/polished/buffed. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would be extremely difficult to fake a halo.
  7. Anybody got one of Merle’s kits to sell? I’m tired of fooling with my Ciener kit and can’t get anyone to work on it.
  8. My Ciener kit worked very well. The only downside was the aluminum bolt - I shot it so much it galled badly where it contacts the sear so now it runs away most of the time.
  9. Like other posters, I’ve rolled my prints many times and never had them rejected. If you’ve never done, practice a few times beforw you roll your cards for submission.
  10. Is it legal to buy a ten round round magazine? Or a five round magazine? What about five ten round magazines at once? Or 50 five round magazines at once? If so, I’d presume it’s also legal to 2500 one round magazines at once. A couple other random tidbits of thought... the onus of possession is on the buyer, not the seller, and Kalifornia isn’t opening and searching incoming mail. My .02
  11. I’d love to see plans for a semi MAT49 if anybody has them.
  12. Dennis has had that gun for sale for several years now. I tried buying a parts kit off of him once about six or seven years ago and at that time he told me he wasn’t going to sell it unless/until he sold his MAT49 and the new buyer declined it.
  13. I’ve experienced the same problem, but both times it was due to debris (a primer) in the lower that kept the sear from fully depressing and thus not allowing the bolt to come forward. I determined the fault was mine for reusing brass too many times - primer pocket was too worn. Removing the pivot plate allowed everything to drop out of the way so the gun could be disassembled.
  14. Per the current ATF FFL newsletter, paper Form 4s are averaging 10 months. Paper Form 1 times are averaging 7 months, and Form 3s at 1 month. E-file Form 1s are running 30 days, while all other E-files are at 7 days average wait time. They make no distinction between trusts and individuals. ATF also provides the following: Common Errors associated with ATF Form 4: • Missing Photos• Fingerprint Cards incomplete• Responsible Person Questionnaires (RPQs) - nonesubmitted, too many submitted, insufficientnumber submitted (Must be one RPQ for each RP)• Trust/Individual names do not match on forms• Box 9 – Missing Transferor signature/date• Box 4d – Incorrect models• Box 12 – Law Enforcement Notificationinformation not provided• Box 13 – Transferee Necessity Statement leftblank• Box 17 – Missing Transferee signature/date
  15. Original M3 slings don't have the nobuckl logo . Only the earlier M1917 and "M1903" ones do . Chris This is true. I have two originals and neither have the NoBuckl logo.
  16. My last Form 4 (FFL/SOT to individual) was approved July 18, 2019, and took right at ten months, door-to-door.
  17. Ok, fast follow-up... Here’s the museum’s record: https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_416040 Maybe the gun is #7098 according to their accession record.
