Was that the movie with the giant ants ? If so that was a good movie for its time. Thats pretty bad when your shooting at a ant so big you don't even have to aim... Edited by GUTTERRATT

Yeah, that was the first good still I've found of James Whitmore (Sgt Ben Peterson) and the Thompson he used to kill the first giant ant. I wonder what happened to the giant ant mock ups.

They were demilled.

the channel listings show that monday night 2/28, at 6pm, TCM will broadcast "Battleground" with James Whitmore.

One of the best WWII movies ever made....

thanks for attaching this photo Hawkeye, in addtion to being a classic, it sums up the grit and desperation of the both the battle and film. and the Thompson in profile is classic in its own right.

I think another reason for the larger hole in the end of the comp is

to make it easier to remove the blank adaptors so you can check/clean

the barrels. It so happens I have done quite a few blank barrels lately.

We use a 1/2-20 thread blank adaptor which is 1/2" dia. The hole in the

end of the comp is only slightly bigger than .45", so we ream out the end

of the comp to 0.510". But you still have to shake/coax/fuss to get the

blank adaptor to fall out the end once its loose inside the comp. Back in

the day they probably just bored the ends of the compensators bigger

to make them easy to work on, figuring (and they were right) that 99%

of movie-goers would not notice.

Oh - and lest you worry that we're "blanking" perfectly good barrels

they are special new barrels designed for blanks. They are 10.5", are

machined and ground to profile just like the originals, and when fitted

to a WH or Kahr semi the gun is still a legal rifle not an SBR. The

battle-reenactors really like them.

Annnnd...I saw a behind the scenes story on the making of Battleground.

They set up the stages and scenes and filmed it in a giant refridgerated

warehouse so that it would look realistic - seeing the breath of the actors,

etc.
