Arthur Fliegenheimer
Appears to be a kosher WWII Savage MODEL 1928 with possible British usage. DId you already purchase it?
21NAVY
Never seen one with wooden dowels in it but looks Savage to me.

Canuck
It looks good to me. Contour of grip, dowels where the sling swivel used to be all match up with mine. The "S" stamping checks out okay. I'd go for it if the price is reasonable.
Chief762
Looks genuine to me. Good shape, too.
giantpanda4
My guess is the dowels are filling holes from a side mounted Brit sling swivel, yes?
audetnelson1
i think also they filll the hole for sling mount Edited December 2, 2015 by audetnelson1
AlexanderA
It appears that the sling swivel base was surface-mounted rather than being inletted. What was the British practice in this regard? What type of swivel would have been used? (The spacing of the holes could help answer that question.) gijive
AlexanderA, The British normally surface mounted the sling swivel on the vertical front grips. The swivel they used most often was an Enfield type swivel. audetnelson1, I agree with the others, the grip looks fine with the exception of maybe some light sanding after the wood dowels were inserted. The horizontal edge running along the top doesn't look as sharp as it should be. Edited December 2, 2015 by gijive
warren
Looks good and MOST British swivels were surface mounted.I have also seen them with a slight inletting.........
Z3BigDaddy
I've owned four sets of Brit wood... All were inletted but they were all horizontal front grips..... YMMV Edited December 3, 2015 by Z3BigDaddy
