I am a new member. First post!

I am a long time gunsmith; 44 years in the business  and counting. semi-retired now. I have gotten the NFA bug after a souple of suppressors and now I

am currently 07 with Class 2 SOT. in the Peoples  Marxist Socialist Republic of NY. Retired military and currently LEO with my Sheriff's Office.

Among my NFA items, I have an M1A1, Pre 86 sample.

I have a couple of questions.

1. what is the normal trigger pull weight parameters  on these? mine seems abnormally heavy for even a sub gun. in excess of 15 lb pull.

2. where can I get a 50 rd repro drum modified to work with the M1A1? I have plenty of 30rd mags but a drum just drips Thompson!!

3. are the fore-ends supposed to rattle? seems like for a military weapon, it should be solid and not make any noise. I shortened the fore end screw because I thought it might be contacting the barrel and not getting the wood tight to the hanger but that is not the case.

Any input is appreciated

That trigger pull is probanly twice what it should be

Dan Block (deerslayer on this board) can modify a repop drum to make it M1/M1A1 comparible. You need to discuss mag catches and mag compatibility with him.

Is the forend wobble the wood or the hanger bar?

Welcome to the forum! There are plenty of interesting and knowledgeable nerds on here to answer most any questions you might have.

I'll admit, I wasn't aware that it was possible to (practically) modify a drum mag to work in an M1A1. Does that entail grinding away the original mag catch rails, and welding in a spine style rail section like you might find on a stick mag, with the requisite latch hole?

To answer your question, "Does that entail grinding away the original mag catch rails, and welding in a spine style rail section like you might find on a stick mag...."

It looks like that is exactly how the drum is modified.

Well now, that's quite a way to make it happen, lol. You learn something new every day!

Check your grip mount. If it is loose in the receiver then you will need to do some tightening work there. Since it is an M1A1, is it a two piece type with a rivet or a one piece? If it is a two piece it could be broken or breaking.
