What are these dents on the tube of some mp40s?

Recommended Posts

Hello , basically the title says it all ... what are these dents on the tubes of some mp40s? What was their purpose?

To be more specific , below are two images,  one shows a mp40 without a dent on the tube and the other a mp40 with dents on the tube.

Thanks in advance!

At about the same time the barrel nut with two wrench flats instead of six was introduced, as in the lower photo above. Again, this was done to simplify production.

Originally they were brazed but later guns were crimped to speed up production.

Oh sir, don't die soon, I would have never know that! But now I do!
