wwl
I have a chance to buy a Ingram Model 6 [military configuration-horizontal foregrip]. Gun looks to be in very nice shape with nice blueing and nice wood. Comes with 4 mags but i do not know how to tell if they are original. Any thing I should be sure to look for or be aware of? How rare are they and how desirable are they? I have several other MGs including Colt Thompsons and this Ingram design looks a little crude. The big question is, what are they worth? Thanks for any help.
ron_brock
There's one on Sturm right now, asking $6800. I not sure what a good price is on one but this gives you one data point for comparison Ron
timkel
Do you have the book "The Mac Man"? It is the best reference on the Ingram M6 models.Does it include the bayonet? It screws inside the handguard. Edited January 11, 2015 by timkel
Grasshopper
Hi, There is likely a premium for the Military model as the Police model seems to be common. In 2013, I picked up several Police models (condition issues, refinished blue or refinished park) in the mid 3's with mags. I thought I got a good deal but as mentioned these are more shooter grade guns. I see asking prices much higher but I'm not sure if I've seen much over 6 for nicer ones. A bit crude - yep. The spring for the trigger appears to react on the stock, maybe not the best mag design (about square shape, I like it better than the Reising mag). Not a Thompson by any means but it doesn't crash the scale like a Thompson either. It is a nice light gun (if that is a good thing for a 45 subbie). My experience anyway, In the end, buy what you like/enjoy. Life is short and you can't take it with you. Good Luck, Grasshopper Edited January 14, 2015 by Grasshopper

timkel
I don't have any personal experience with the M6. But they have a good reputation for reliability. They have history with police and prison guards. Some guns come with original cases. The down side is that parts and magazines are hard to find.See the M6 in the pic?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/timkel24102410/stuff/Big_house_Ingram6.jpg
dalbert
The good ones are being fairly consistently listed between $6K to $7K in the last 2 years, but I don't know the actual sale prices. Mine is a nice, early one, featured in the Mac Man book, and I paid $5795 for it in late 2009 with 2 magazines. Over the years, M6's have very slowly appreciated in value. They are pretty reliable, and expensive magazines are the main issue. Very fun to shoot... David Albertdalbert@sturmgewehr.com
Robert Henley
Thanks David. The pinned reference page, by the way, is excellent! I don't have a lot of tolerance for guns that don't run 100% with proper ammo, etc. Robert
Robert Henley
One thing that strikes me is it looks like the ejection is out the top rather than the side. I had a post some time ago about being left handed, and looking for left handed friendly SMG's. The Beretta 38/42 was an example (left side ejection). Nice gun. How about the Ingram Model 6 in terms of the ejection?
