  1. The lack of an Index in the few of their books that I ever bought was a big turn off that kept me from considering any other titles. MHO, YMMV, etc.
  2. This recently completed Gunbroker auction might give you an idea of what a Colt era nickel plated buttstock oil bottle will run: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/910531802 Good luck.
  3. A point of clarification with respect to the "Tommy Gun" marking. It was done by A.O.C. for trademark, not copyright purposes. A technical point, as well as conduction and convection, heat dissipates via radiation. The increased surface area of a finned barrel vis a vis a smooth barrel provides for more heat radiation than does a smooth barrel. E.g., the finned radiators used in connection with internal combustion engine equipped vehicles, the finned heat sinks used on many electronic devices. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well. MP
  4. Some drawings and descriptive language of the silencer and assembly/disassembly tool shown can be found in U.S. Patent No. 1,482,805. For some reason I'm not able to enter a hot link, but the patent can be found on the USPTO website or via a Google search. 5. Thanks for the quick response! Do you have a recommended online guide for disassembly of the lower trigger parts? I do a lot of other gun related work, so I am not worried if I have to figure it out myself, but it's always great to have guidance. The AGI video disc on the Thompsons covers the semi auto as well as full auto versions. That said, one caveat that is in the Owners Manual for the semi that was not specifically noted in the video (at least in the edition that I have) was the warning to make sure that the selector is in the FIRE position before you try to remove the upper from the trigger frame. 6. Another thing to watch for is that there are (609?) Thompsons of the M1 model that were made in West Hurley right before the May, '86 cut off. These may have dimensional issues, and are generally considered of somewhat lower value than WWII vintage M1/M1A1 Thompsons. Best of luck with your search. Be well. MP
  7. From what I understand, the (Democrat) AG here in MI has said that even if the Feds say it's okay, her interpretation is that MI law requires the NICS check and signoff at the Dealer. So when the silencer that I bought in early May gets approved (hopefully in no more than a few months or so from now), I'll have to go to his shop, get the NICS approval done there, and pick it up from him. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.
  8. From my experience, in the 'collectibles' of anything there are basically two kinds of buyers. One type that wants the whole package and will pay a premium to avoid gathering extras and accessories. The other type wants to buy just the core starting item and then enjoy 'the thrill of the hunt' over and over for each specific extra or accessory that they want. Best of luck with whatever you pursue. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well. MP
  9. Years ago the auto industry had a saying, "Never buy a car built on a Monday or a Friday."
  10. At about 1:06 of this "Little Honda" by the Beach Boys video you can catch the lyric "climbs the hills like a Matchless cause my Honda's built really light": And if you're really into motorcycle mounts for TSMGs, here're links to a couple patents: Patent Images (uspto.gov) Patent Images (uspto.gov) Be well, MP
  11. Mine was "born" a hundred years ago from last week. We didn't celebrate though.
  12. FWIW, the GB selling price of the kit was at the MSRP around the last that J.A.C. had them in stock . I priced out one the same as the one that was on GB at the time (autumn, 2015), but passed. One of the reasons I didn't get one was that I figured I'd have to have a steel sear plate installed, and I wasn't sure how much that was going to cost. No regrets as I have Uzi and M16 .22 conversions to scratch my full auto .22 itch. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.
  13. FWIW, Feds and State might be okay with an LLC having a C & R license registered at ones home, but the city I reside in is not. Okay as an individual in a residential area; not as a business unless at a location zoned, taxed, and insured accordingly. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.
  14. I don't have one, and I don't know what the Richardson one looked like. That said, if I wanted a Model 28 Buffer Pilot Sling Mount, I'd get a 28 Buffer Pilot and longitudinally, center line drill and tap (probably 10-32) the rear face of the buffer pilot and install a sling swivel eyelet. Best of luck. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be powerful; be well.
  15. I believe they are pre-WWII. David FWIW, present day historians say that what is referred to as WWII started in earnest in August, 1937, after the Japanese and Chinese had clashed in the Marco Polo Bridge incident of July 7, 1937.
  16. On the old Subguns website there was a member who had a signature line with a paraphrase of the S. Hunter Thompson quote along the lines of, "The Class 3 firearms business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the firearms industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason." Be well.
  17. From what I've read, I believe that the 'half moon' cuts in the bolt slot on early West Hurley '27A1s were intended to be used as "Bolt Holt Open" (BHO) notches (i.e., pull bolt back to cut location and pull up to latch bolt rearward, e.g., to remove a drum mag). And further, the notches apparently do not provide a very secure "Hold" so use as a BHO is generally not recommended. I have no direct, personal experience. MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.
  18. When did that happen? I don't recall what year(s). It makes sense. From what I understand, Nov., 1939.
  19. The display: The three oil bottles that have orthorhombical shaped bodies have spout caps that include a "needle". The cap with needle was patented in 1895 (and the patent expired in 1912). A link to the patent: https://pdfpiw.uspto.gov/.piw?PageNum=0&docid=00537888&IDKey=0F99AF98E9D2%0D%0A&HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpatft.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect1%3DPTO1%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526d%3DPALL%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsrchnum.htm%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526s1%3D0537888.PN.%2526OS%3DPN%2F0537888%2526RS%3DPN%2F0537888 The Challenge: There is an error in the patent. Can you find the error? Answer here: https://imgur.com/0PiEkU9
  20. It would clash with my crown and scepter, so I'll pass.
  21. IIRC, Kahr bought up Auto-Ordnance in 1999, so you likely have a transitional firearm. As to value, probably about the same as any 27A1 lightweight in similar condition. MHO, YMMV, etc. Best of luck. Be well.
  22. My concern is that the mag enhancer would scrape, gouge, scuff, or otherwise damage the gun finish. If it's mounted too loose, it might rub when the gun is fired; and if tightened enough to not rub, it might bite into the finish. MHO, YMMV, etc.
  23. The Uzi .22LR conversion I have is one that I bought from Vector in 2007. I believe that today Subgun Ordnance still sells a similar conversion. Getting magazines may be a problem as it appears that Black Dog Machine is showing them out of stock as is BWE. Best of luck, and be well. MP
  24. Don't put off estate planning. I've known plenty of young people who died suddenly and unexpectedly due to accidents, heart attacks, strokes, and homicide. You never know when God is going to move his cursor on to you and hit the "SMITE" key.
