  1. The third hand is only used to remove the drum once the last shot is fired and the bolt locks closed. The third hand will slide up the mag rail so you can lock the bolt back.
  2. That was great!! Now I have to go watch the movie again!
  3. Awesome pictures! There is something about high res black and white (shades of Ansel Adams). Thanks for sharing!!
  4. There always has to be another side to the story. I bought my 1st Kahr (MK9 9MM pistol) back in 2001 and it has more than lived up to my expectations. I'm not sure how many thousands of rounds I have through it with never a hiccup. I had always wanted a Thompson SMG, but due to the cost of the real deal, my options were limited. I read many of the posts on this board per the bad experiences with Kahr. Some had valid problems, many didn't have any actual experiences or some had Kahrs that were built right after they starting producing their Thompson in 1999 (are growing pains an excuse?). Buying a new Kahr produced Thompson seemed like a gamble, but I had also read many horror stories on the semi West Hurley's. It seems both rifles could need a lot of work to make them run. I took the chance and purchased a new Kahr 1927A1 a few months ago. I prob have 400 - 500 rounds through it so far and it has been wonderful. The 50 round drum (new one w/ the hollow shaft) has worked perfectly. I'm not sure if mine is actually in the minority or if you always hear about the bad but seldom about the good. I just wanted to say there is always 2 sides. I'm happy with my purchases.
  5. Maybe there's something to the hollow shaft? I just checked my Kahr I purchased a couple of months ago and the L drum does have a hollow shaft. It only has 100 rounds through it, but it has run perfect, not one ftf or jam. I'm sure some will argue but maybe Kahr is listening and slowly working to get the quality better?
  6. Thanks for the compliments! 1921 G, I wave to everybody on a bike, I have even waved to guys on mopeds! Like the Tommy Gun thing, it's a kind of binding tie that a lot of people would not understand. Phil I also checked out the initial cost to set up for reloading... something to seriously look into, maybe for my next birthday... or next Christmas... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif
  7. I haven't made any changes yet, pure stock.. but it won't stay that way. This is not that good of a picture of the gun, but it shows another reason why I can't afford the real thing. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q149/ChromeJeep/Toys.jpg
  8. 1921 G, Are you finding parts at a decent price? I've been looking for the GI catch (to modify) and a few other parts, but didn't want to pay an arm and a leg.
  9. Well I took the day off and tried my 1927A1 at the range today (I tried 2 other times but with hunting season, the range is packed on Sat and Sundays!). I must be one of the lucky few with this gun. I ran 300 rounds through it today and not a single hiccup! Most rounds were with the 30 round mag it came with, but I did try one box of Winchester whitebox in the drum, no problems at all! I also went through a box of Sellier & Bellot, not one problem with feed or ejecting. I know only 300 rounds doesn't prove everything, but it sure makes me feel better. If the semi auto was this much fun, now I have a small idea what the real thing must be like! I had also never thought I'd get into reloading.... but if this keeps up, I won't be able to afford not to!!
  10. Thanks for the info! I may see how it shoots, if it's ok maybe I'll wait til it's out of warranty before I make any major changes. I had read someplace else that the new Kahr's had pressed on comps, don't know why they'd take a step backwards (ok I can guess why). And by the time I save up for a barrel and comp, they'll prob be twice as expensive as now. Wife has a tough time w/ my "hobbies". Thanks again.
  11. Well I was at Sportsman Warehouse last weekend. Sitting in the gun racks next to the Bushmaster AR15's was a new Kahr 1927A1 with drum. They must have seen the look in my eye, I've wanted one of these for a long time. They made me a deal I couldn't refuse and since I have a few expensive hobbies that preclude me from ever having the real thing, I had to buy it. I'm also hoping my luck will hold out and this may be one of the few that shoot straight from the box. I'll find out soon, looking forward to getting it to the range. (One thing, it does have some nice wood!) Now I have a couple of questions. I know about the 1/10" mag catch difference to use GI mags, and that the GI mag catch should fit the 1927A1. Does the GI catch have to be reworked to fit the 1927A1 frame (and mags)? Or is it just as good to get a Kahr catch and take 1/10" off that? Also on the 1927A1, is the compensator pressed on the 16 1/2 barrel (and pinned) which means if I sbr it, I'll have to get the barrel AND compensator (if I go with the GI version)? Thanks for the education I have received so far on this board.
  12. Zamm, thank you for the story and my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. My dad was in Korea and he has never been one to talk about his service there. It reminds me that we should never take these things for granted, life seems to go by too quick. Thank you again for your dad's service along with the others who made sure we have the freedoms we have today.
  13. Ok just wondering, why would the Kahr barrel be no good on the guns they are made for? I have heard from guys who have purchased parts kits and some are not in the best of shape, so it seems you take your chances in that route. With a 10.5" barrel from Kahr you'd be sure to have something new.
  14. I was wondering the same thing about the sbr version. Kahr lists the weight of the "long" barrel as 13 lbs and the sbr as 12 lbs. Does that 6 inches of extra barrel weigh a pound?? (and they make a Porsche too?) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  15. Thanks for the info. I was also thinking maybe Kahr was making ongoing updates or improvements, what with the recent changes to the bolt, stock fit, new mags... Maybe the most recent guns will work better out of the box? (maybe I'm too much of an optimist) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif Thanks again.
  16. QUOTE (Deputy @ Aug 15 2006, 03:22 PM) Final Kahr score: Customer Service:0 Quality Control:0 Coolness Factor at the range: 1000 But the coolness factor is offset and drops to ZERO when the dang thing doesn't work worth a squat. Dep I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but Deputy you also got it right. My wife would kill me if I even talked about adding a $25,000+ real Thompson to my list of "hobbies". And who else makes an affordable gun that warrants the kind of desire the Thompson has?? If I want a Thompson, I have no other alternative but to try my luck with Kahr. (so does anybody know a good gunsmith in the North Dallas area? http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif )
  17. Awesome collection!! Looks like maybe a 3 inch mortar in the background?
  18. Phil, I may be new to this board, but I get this feeling you just don't really like Kahr. It must be a different group making their pistols. I have a Kahr MK9, one of the best pistols I have. Easily a thousand rounds through it and can't remember a jam, misfire or failure to feed. I'm looking at a new 1927A1 and I'll see if my luck holds out w/ Kahr. (and I can't imagine the weight of 100 rounds hanging off that thing!!)
  19. Ok, so all this being said, how safe/reliable/hard on the receiver are the "EZ Pull" springs that can be installed in the 1927A1? I'm new to this board and looking to add the 1927A1 to my shooting collection. Already looking at modifications I can make to it....
