komodoj
So the census out there is that most people feel the M2 is uncontrollable. One reason said is that its a light weapon. Anyone ever try to insert some Tungsten rods In the stock to give it a couple pounds + or - ?
StrangeRanger
Weight in the stock would do little goodWeight in the forend might help but IMO the tail would still wag the dog
shadycon
I discovered yrs ago, in the army shooting M-16's, control = short bursts. Mag bumps when you have hundreds of close targets coming at you like h***!
Outsider
In my opinion the GI comp helps considerably, but it is still a light weapon and you have to pay attention when firing it. Steve

MG08
Firing anything in FA is a matter of technique - even the Thompson is controllable if used correctly ! The M2 Carbine tends to climb not because it is light but because of the physics of the rifle in recoil. there are ( as seen in the video) ways to control it. NFA amnesty
This is me shooting my M2. Had a failure to feed due to 30 round mag, but runs like a top. It is harder to control but fun to shoot when you master the beast. If we had an inline stock, would help with controlling the weapon. Same principle as MP44 and M16 rifles. heavy artillery
I'm with MG08 and others; it's a matter of technique. I've developed a good balance of push-pull and timing to effectively control my Thompson and M2. While I usually do short bursts, I've done enough magazine dumps to know how the weapon will move/climb and counter it. That said, my M14 still climbs up and to the right... komodoj
Well it was an M2 or a FAL. I choose the M2 figuring it would have less felt recoil? Thank you to all for there great insight. This is truly a remarkable board!!
timkel
With practice any weapon can be mastered. Grip , stance and burst size. I read somewhere that the chinese would turn their Mauser 712 on the side for full auto bursts. All about technique.
MG08
You know - we tried the sideways shooting with AKs (real ones) back when we were testing them- The ergonomics actually work out better but the sights don't then. Works for consistent hits at 20-40 yds. I am just no a big enough fan of AKs to spend much time on it .
jim c 351
The problem with the carbine, as I see it, is it heats up very fast, much faster than the TSMG.And it cools very slowly. If its a C&R transferable carbine with an original barrel, I'd baby it.Jim C
DINK
The GI compensator (or "recoil check" as Uncle Sam called it) really does make a difference. I picked one up after watching a "Forgotten Weapons" video featuring Ken Hackathorn and found that it made a considerable difference in controllability. They are still readily available and cheap.
