Wiking44
Hello all. I joined this forum to learn rather than to ask for help, but I find myself in a bit of a pickle. I bought a recoil spring assembly on Gunbroker a few months ago. I didn't pay much attention to it until today. I found out that the top of the assembly sleeve appears to have been damaged, and will not allow the firing pin assembly to screw all the way down. My mistake. As usual I assumed the seller was honest and I have paid the price. I'm looking for the top recoil spring assembly housing or whatever you're willing to part with. If you know a good machinist I can send this to for rehabilitation, I'm also ok with that. Unfortunately, in its present condition, I paid for a piece of junk. Live and learn. Thanks! Rekraps
So listen, all is not lost. Find a local machine shop, or hydraulic fittings shop and they can "fix" or re-thread the part so it will work. these local shop can do anything! reichstall
yes to the above you are ok with this very minor fix you may be able to dress that out your self with some patience
johnsonlmg41
I'd put anti-seize on it and run it in and out a couple times and the threads will self clean. They are not that bad and while not mint, it's a very usable piece. You could order a thread file, but it's really not that bad.
Wiking44
Ok, thanks for the tips. I haven't really tried to muscle it in. I may give anti-seize a try.

If near Macon GA swing by the shop and let me look at it, I'll measure the threads on one of mine also and see if I have a tap to clean up the ID thread......probably easiest to use a thread file on the OD/cap thread. In the future, save yourself aggravation and money.....order springs from wolf, and the buffer assembly from these guys..... https://www.frontline-militaria.com/mp40-telescope-set.html The also have firing pins.... https://www.frontline-militaria.com/mp40-firing-pin.html Hard to tell for sure....but if the damage is limited to the staked area, I can probably clean it up in a few minutes with a dremel and a cutoff wheel..... Thanks Rudy! We'll talk about it next time I call. I didn't even know they made buffer assemblies!
