StrangeRanger
It works just like a British Mk1 or Mk2 just more reliable https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6Il8YvIfF-I

1gewehr
Personally, I like the spoon type. Works as well as the Austen loader, but fits nicely in a pocket! Much less expensive, too. Easy to have several so you aren't caught without one! https://www.apexgunparts.com/sten-magazine-loading-tool-spoon-lever-mk4.html
johnsonlmg41
While the Austen loader is nice, the others mentioned work just as well at a fraction of the price.
StrangeRanger
An Austen is essentially an improved version of the British Mk1 with a cast rather than stamped body. I've never sees much less used a British Mk1 I had major issues with a Mk2 filler as did several other people that I shoot with. The latch allowed too much up and down movement of the filler body on the mag which frequently caused it to misfeed. Never seen a Mk3 which is a plunger type loader similar to the most common one for the PPSh. But if it's as much of a PITA to use as the PPSh loader I don't ever want to see one I recently acquired a Mk4 and I agree they are a reliable, easy to use and inexpensive unit
