buzz
I own two Thompsons which were originally purchased from a suburban Philadelphia gun wholesaler back in 1981. They were purchased as a pair and one is marked with the police department initials. It's not clear who the dept might be, a lot of departments might have the same initials. This was back before people seriously collected Thompsons apparently, the original buyer tells me he spent $2500 on the pair. I'm wondering if it's any use to write a FOIA letter for these guns. I wrote FOIA letter to the federal government a few years ago on different gun, and I got stonewalled. They sent a letter back saying, "We got your request" but that was that, never heard from them again. Has anyone had any luck recently with a FOIA letter? darrylta
I made a FOIA request about a week ago for NAC-Colt #4. I'll post with results, my other guns all have successful FOIArequests. It normally takes 2 months (+-) for one to come back, not bad for being a free service.-Darryl
Colt Chopper
Darryl, did you apply on line or written ? I tried on line, and as Buzz said, I received conformation, and a year later, nothing.
darrylta
All of the requests have been in a written letter form. It will be interesting to seewhat comes of it. With the new ATF director in place, I've been seeing delayand or impede tactics on everything...even 5320.20 forms? You may want to follow up with a written letter on it, it could have been lostwith all the emails and recycled gov't hard drives of late:-)-Darryl Edited June 20, 2014 by darrylta

I too never got a response (other than a confirmation letter) to one I submitted. I think I did it online. I seem to recall there was a specific format. Is there an example handy?
Guest title ii
I've always had good luck with FOIA requests. I always follow up with the Disclosure Division after the stated deadline has passed for an update.

Z3BigDaddy
No problems getting mine in a, government, timely manner. They are pretty well redacted but it gives you time stamps for every transfer and some info can be gleaned by putting the pieces together.
MrBill
I sent a FOIA letter request on 1-16-2014 and got a confirm letter in mid March and a very redacted file on the Thompson in mid May. The only really useful information was that the gun was amnesty registered 1968 and was transferred four times before i got it.
