  1. Here's one of Rick's Sterlings I had out last weekend doing some bullet weight vs ROF testing... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nBiCxJuMyYKZWc-UqXzLfMAlm7rlD0uZbExleFOnmvnqUawP7TKPE_UxmPVTdk50HGnnmRGcW6DXOtNUqP-d2UzUHAsHp5sAsW4a14uEakwdLySBL5_TLTvsOd_-VDypG_1-YJCJoAhjsVC0UzPA0LSL0NDDjINO_yBQkHcDSL8x6TWSXLgqJjfMhkry0olBWC-nOr3DfPituvyervFbFuMuu_CBOv216p1jLrTWY8vWubeb2U0D8PVR5HFuC9uOSL8B30Kd-1heotDKXQNg8yBdRsK6JwhIYRFtwc4hZhhFqzm3JjW1UjpYxzNhquQFzudx8RjolFFo5KHCHO4oPGx0NMs_KwBTZ48CSDXv2CN2pZANpNhJo6JQVuz9iggvP0wp-ZwWYA4LQFO0P4SG6wNuiXCqTw_t7pwf6C5BFuaEqQ6lwmUhEw3mzYuGqbBMuodv_TRdJWzHw340Ux8jL6zvEPEtDKBcJS9ccuEjjwRbpzqb1s_pa8gqoJeKe-zguUg8WqNgc-8zSoBdl-gOzFXkIlQ9ykx178FJCnLrT7wVs4lF1hktVrucxQONqKgeRuttNumsJj5IgVkSWztawvysLYpKFimeoMU5YO7CofNkORcroVmNuh9vB_iSMGS8ObGzCKFTfSUgPGvoGHfk2bQkT0b_qhp5=w932-h1241-no
  2. Never had any luck with DGS myself (3 strikes), but it sounds like his dlo tube projects are good to go. Rick Winters and John Andrewski have been excellent in my experience.
  3. The flat black is definitely nice. Here's a transferable replica of a 1958 military Sterling L2A3 made by Rick over at CPS. He uses black Duracoat over parkerizing to resemble the original Suncorite finish used for the Sterling military guns.
  4. Yes, PDWs are a little more valuable due the premium on the SP89. For a newly made, all German pdw SBR from one of the top builders (TPM, TSC, TDyer, etc) expect to pay 7 - 8K. One with an original pdw barrel (very rare) could fetch over 9K. They are sweet guns, my favorite of the HK subguns.
  5. No difference in my experience. F4 xfer times have been running 90 to 120 days for me lately. Fastest ever for me was 6 weeks for a can in 2010. In general I thinks the good old days are here again for wait times.
  6. Yes that is hard one to find less then 10 out there or so I have been told.http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p57/tgus/619/619002.jpg Very nice, TGUS! Anyone seen or have pics of an A2 similarly designated?
  7. Two years old, but definitely of value IMO - have to thank colorado1919 for this useful post and link. Great details and insights on early M60 mods - by those who did the work.
  8. Makes sense - it is an early gun. Here's the unit in question:
  9. Anyone know the significance of an "R" at the end of a five digit serial number - 2xxxxxR? On this gun the SN is on the trunnion, and the roll maks indicate Saco - Lowell Shop. Thanks!
  10. Extremely cool! A glimpse into NFA renaissance man's territory IMO - D kit, loach, mg42, Gunny and the Creek all in a brief response to an m60D question. Sounds like that kit is a must for serious shooters...
  11. Then there's the M60D if you want to vehicle mount or get serious about shooting down those planes at Big Sandy... Anyone got one of these?
  12. Beautiful gun as I've said elsewhere. Thanks for the additional details here. Could I ask how your acquired the E6 kit - was it from from Dersert Ordnance as part of rebuild package? LMO is offering an E4 by DO built around a maremount amnesty @55K, but seems a little steep... Keep those pics and vids rolling in - they are appreciated. Hoping to see new ones on the sten, ppsh, and Thompson...
  13. Fascinating topic and thread... Here's video about the return of 8946 to Auburn and local discussion about it at the Indiana Shooters site: http://www.indianashooter.com/nfa-class-3-title-ii/33901-gun-stolen-dillinger-gang-returned-indiana.html
  14. Gotta try the eForm 4 route for the next transfer. My latest stamps took over 9 months door to door. 3 months would be like the old days...
  15. It's out of reach for a while. Eventually I may succumb... Definitely would be fun. Meanwhile someone else may shoot theirs and post about it.
  16. Was very fortunate to be able to purchase one of these transferable L2A2s from Ruben a while back. Built in 1955, imported by Colt in 1956, they were sold by Colt to a collector in 1985. Ruben acquired and sold them about a year ago. The other ones I have seen (as well as mine) have SN# in the range KR27XX. By some accounts there were a total of 5 that were sold. Some of these L2A2s were partially unwrapped, and others such as mine were kept fully cocooned in the original wax paper except for a slit above the mag well to verify the SN. Some of the buyers emerged in threads over at UziTalk and the discussion centered around to shoot it or not shoot it, and for the fully cocooned ones whether to unwrap or not. Also some interesting discussions and photos around presentation cases followed. One buyer fully unveiled his MK III and hung it on his gun wall http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?71441-NIB-Sterling-MKIII-unwrapping.&daysprune=365. For now I am content to leave it in the "don't shoot and don't unwrap" mode, sitting in my safe. Have to admit it feels good to possess an original, unfired, unwrapped Mk III and to own a piece of Sterling history. On the other hand "ah cain't shoot it" and still feel the same way. Collecting NFA definitely has a downside.
  17. Dittos for Ruben - the Billistics RDIAS in the photo above was acquired from him as were other NFA items I own. Always a pleasure to do business with him.
  18. Woulda, shoulda, coulda and CYA and at least they tried. Really, really there WAS a trust loophole - they were about to pounce on you anyway. (Glad they were looking out for us helping to close those loopholes). McCain esque with strong elitism. And for only $50 you too can become an "associate" member of the club.
  19. Arrogant to assume they represent us and to negotiate with the ATF on our behalf regarding what we want or should not want. Naive in estimating their power and influence. Impotent when the rubber met the road. If nfatca were captain Tupolev we the crew would be yelling to this arrogant, naive, impotent captain "you have killed us" as the torpedo he insisted to launch turns back on our own ship.
  20. Like otheres here I keep copies of F4s - two small three ring binders with the complete set of reduced sized copies in plastic sleeves. Always take a binder with me when shooting and keep in the truck for close proximity. Never have been asked to produce any of them. Only times I've had to produce a copy is to send to a company like Bushmaster for purchasing FA parts, short barreled uppers etc. Cell phone copies not a bad idea - more convenient once you've created the files.
  21. Most likely it is enamel paint that dripped down. Colt (and others) used this process to set the roll pin on the bolt catch as well as to prevent rust in the staked areas of the castle nut on the receiver extension. A sign of authenticity in my view...
  22. Agreed. RDIAS a good option, very flexible, but typically get's further away from the classic look. Here's an example that's configured with a piston upper...
  23. For me F4 wait times have come down to about 5 months for latest ones from a peak of 6 1/2 months.
  24. Wow, that's an amazing lineup of firearms you have. Do you get to shoot them in New Zealand? I assume you cannot possess, let alone shoot them in them in Australia...
  25. I have a CPS L2A3 replica (a favorite). I love the workmanship and sense of history that are part of these replicas, not to mention the reliability and smooth operation. Rick Winters has done an awesome job in bringing them to market. Shotgun News did a piece on the CPS sterling last April. I already had my unit when the acticle came out - one of the few times I felt I was ahead of the curve in owning a cool firearm. I also have a Quinell reworked PAWs sterling.
