giantpanda4
Check this out... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 Is this worth the big bucks - when the seller said the rest of the gun is gone? This leads me to think the only thing you can do with it is make a fake reciever with the "correct" numbers (happened a lot with cars/engines in the 90's price craze) or assemble a mismatched gun - with what value? Interesting historical part - but for that much $$?
Mike Hammer
It's an interesting relec, but that's all it is. It is so pitted and deformed that it has no worth as a working lower... so why is some idiot paying all that cash for it? Go figure...it's E-Bay! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif Mike Hammer
Arthur Fliegenheimer
giant, Savage frames command $750, so why wouldn't an early Colt frame with IRA history exceed that figure? I wonder why GH want's to sell it now? Mike, There are torched 1928/M1/M1A1 receiver parts selling for that amount. Talk about useless parts! This may be an expensive paperweight/conversation piece, but at least it has some character.
Randy Lish
Although Gordon's book lists him as being the current owner of this lower, he may have sold it to someone else recently since the guy selling the Colt lower lives in Illinois and Gordon lives in California......................who knows! LIONHART
Damn, I was already outbid!
Ron Mills
I don't understand why that thing is going for so much $$$ either. Can you really make something like that work if it's so pitted and such? Sure would be the s***s if it wouldn't run and turned into a paperweight. I'm no gunsmith or tinkerer, so maybe there's a lot I don't know (that leaves it wide open!). LIONHART, that high bidder seems to be pretty active on the Thompson gear. I've done some trading with him.
giantpanda4
Aurthur, I think the prices for complete lowers on Ebay have been more like $500+, but usually for excellent stuff. I think this could be made to run, but on what? Why would you put it on any gun except the one it belongs on (not existing anymore), unless you have a near numbered Colt that is missing a lower....??? Ebay IS an interesting place - now just to watch!
Arthur Fliegenheimer
Giant, SARCO is , and has been, selling complete 28 lowers for $750. The Ebay prices are actually better than the surplus wharehouse stores for that stuff. It's usually the M1/M1A1 lowers that garner $500. I betcha that frame would work the way it is on a 28 receiver. That is testament to the craftsmanship of the New England gunsmiths of the twenties.
giantpanda4
Yeah, your right Authur. I just saw the 28 lower that just sold for 650 on ebay. That was the reserve, at least no one raised it . But the prices are going out of sight!
John Jr
Piece of junk. Paperweight. But since colt made it, must be worth 10000000000000000000000000000000.00 QUOTE That is testament to the craftsmanship of the New England gunsmiths of the twenties. Semi Automatic pointing towards Automatic. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Russell Maguire was so bad then why do his parts fit into colts and visa versa? Opps, how loud can you say SAME MACHINES Arthur? AZDoug
does look like it rusted up a bit after sitting in a buried petrol drum for some number of years. I wonder what my Colt lower is worth, #12571, in about 90-95% condition, with all original Colt parts? I am not looking to sell it, as I am keeping it for parts and/or maybe to put on a post sample upper I was thinking about finishing. Now THAT would be a Frankenstein gun: original Colt 21 barrel, original colt lower and post sample phil ord or something receiver. :-) Doug

PK.
In my experience, the Colt and early Savage knurling was “positiveâ€; the points of the diamonds being outward. The Savage knurling changed to “negative†for a time prior to it’s being eliminated all together. In this photo it appears that the knurling on the magazine catch and safety are positive. The pivot; negative.
Arthur Fliegenheimer
PK, Considering the abuse this frame has seen over the last 80+ years, it's not surprising it has picked up post 1921 parts. John Jr, I think there is more "deaf" in your version of "definition," but that is understandable considering the noise generating from your keyboard when your enter key got stuck. Arthur Fliegenheimer
If you want to get the absolute highest price for TSMG related parts, you might as well eliminate ebay as the middleman, and contact "AIRMECHWWII" directly. This guy will bump himself in a one-man auction.
