PaulF Posted October 1, 2008 Report Share Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) Hey all- I have been gone for a while doing a little sun and fun with Uncle Sam. I am now home though! While away I did have occasion to get online and found my how-to post linked from a couple of different sites. I was quite flattered. It looks like I may have even helped out a person or two. Very gratifying. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to show off our little .45 ACP bullet hoses. I'll start, mine is a 1942 production model. She has a lot of intersting features. Let me point out a few. Finger grip stock, two (?!!?) take down screws that are both standard flat blade, not the single knurled thumbscrew that seem so common, and of course the expected blown compensator fin. Not pictured but there is the "P" stamp on the reciever. I am pretty sure this was one of the Marine Corps ( ) contract guns that got pulled off the line to become a police weapon. If only she could talk!!! Before I get to the pictures I have to say that the old Reising probably got sold short way back when. Having had the opportunity to play with about 6 different Thompsons I can honestly say that I like the Reising better than the venerable Tommy gun. That ought to ruffle a few feathers huh? It is lighter, it points better, and for me it feels more comfortable than a Thompson. Had Uncle Sam had time to figure out the difficulties the Reising had I think it could have been a formidable weapon during WWII. I might add that shortly after I got home I went to a subgun match with my lowly Reising. I kicked butt on all those Mp-5's, MP-40's, and 9mm M-16's, and even a COLT (!!) Thompson. This thing is a serious piece of hardware once it has been set up to run right! That story notwithstanding, I would LOVE to have a Thompson SMG in my safe. But before I drop the cash for that I am getting a Corvette! Anyway, here she is. Check out that walnut stock, is that a thing of beauty or what? The 12 round mag is only for show. In actuality it is really only useful with the selector set to semi, she runs so fast that 2 or 3 burst is all the 12 rounder can give. Is that the norm for Model 60's????? Anyway, beautiful collection. I think a model 60 may be in my future. Thanks a lot! The one with the leather sling really looks nice, I want it! PaulF, We're all glad you made it back from your tour of duty!..and Thanks! I'm a Thompson and a Reising fan...BIG TIME Thompson fan...you just can't beat its history or allure. However, when it comes down to performance under which we, as Class III shooters use both guns, I would pick the Reising for accuracy. People who shoot Reisings in steel plate competitions generally do very well, and I find the closed bolt operation produces much better groups than my M1 Thompson. The Reising shot groups are more like what I experience with my MP-5's. The Reising has received a bad rap in many circles, for many years, but it is undeserved, in my opinion. There's some history, but definitely not as rich as the TSMG. I like both a whole lot, so no feathers were ruffled for me! Your thanks is much appreciated though. Having said that- MY GOD!!!!!!! That is one beautiful firearm you have there. Is that all originial? The finish on the stock and the bluing are just freakin', well, INCREDIBLE!. That really looks like it was made yesterday. I have some serious Reising envy going on right now. I thought I had a bit of a unique weapon but I see that you a have a "P" proof on your reciever. Now that is quite interesting. Considering the fact that the weapon is blued and has what appears to be a commercial stock I concede that you have a very interesting piece there! Do you know the history on this particular weapon? I would love to hear it. And one final note, I too am a Tommy gun freak! The WWII Thompsons are by far my favorites. I love the horizontal fore grips and stick mags. That is a serious piece of hardware, and very visually appealing! If I can ever get myself focused on one hobby I might just be able to put aside the cash to slap one in my safe! I know a lot of folks like the Colts and their gangster heritage but I just love the M1 Tommy's. And dang are they fun to shoot! It is great to know there are other MG collectors/shooters out there who enjoy the Reising as much as I do. It really is a hoot! But hey, maybe we should keep that to ourselves in the hope that the Reising might stay at least relatively affordable!!!!! Back on topic though, keep those Reising pics coming! bm59collector Posted October 2, 2008 Report Share Posted October 2, 2008 My Reising, modified to meet Connecticut law :angry: that it fire full auto in either semi or FA, so no matter where the selector is, other than 'safe' it will 'rip' away. My form 4 isn't stamped FA use only, but my S&W76 form 4 is marked with a big red ATF stamp, FA only. Also another interesting detail about the Model 60 with the leather sling (187), it has a finned barrel. Haven't seen another one of those around, although there may be some. Anyway it is a nice Reising that I've had to tweak very little. I've added a 20 round mag well and changed the compensator to keep the original one intact. This is an interesting one. I believe it is one of a few Model 65's that were modified for National Match use by the Marine Corps. I'll hopefully know for sure when I'm able to examine it in person. Hawkeye Joe, The 2 screw came first and are usually on the blued guns. The 3 screw came last and are on the so called "military" guns. In between there was a milled guard usually found on the M55.
