Dolphinvet
Most here on the boards recall the M1 Thompson I purchased that was all finished in shiny nickel with a 1928 barrel and compensator. It has been reborn. Here are a few before and after pictures. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20131205_182953.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20131205_182945.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145435.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145420.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145604.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140518_145625.jpg

Dolphinvet
Looks great. Did you save the hybrid horizontal/vertical foregrip? Looked pretty cool.I have all the parts that were originally attached to the now dark blue receiver, in the finish as shown above. This includes the hybrid foregrip, lower receiver and stock, and barrel. I plan to sell them as I don't see that I will have a need for them anytime in the future. The only thing I plan on keeping for sure is the 30rd nickel plated magazine. Edited May 19, 2014 by Dolphinvet
Grasshopper
Hey Dolphinvet, Looks great! While I'll miss the shine from the old chrome plated version, it does looks so much better. Now I'll have to get a new brand on my fingers from the new barrel. (Placing ones fingers on the barrel after a RFYL (Run For Your Life) bay is not smart) Enjoy! It's nice that your gun could be restored to its original bad ass configuration. If I was a gunsmith I'd make a hobby out of un-bubba-ing old guns. ThompsonCrazy
Did your gunsmith Parker Lubrize or Dulite? How were the metal and markings under the chrome? Can you take a couple of close ups of just the receiver to get an idea of surface? TC

Dolphinvet
Did your gunsmith Parker Lubrize or Dulite? How were the metal and markings under the chrome? Can you take a couple of close ups of just the receiver to get an idea of surface? TCBeen crazy busy the past 2 weeks so haven't really had time to respond. Dulite was used as the finish. Removing the nickel plating was done by the same method to put on the nickel, except to reverse the polarity. Reverse electroplating I think it's called. The bare metal I'm told looked really clean after it was draw filed perfectly smooth. I took a few pictures with my cell phone but they are not that great. Will post here. http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173058.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173053.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173048.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173046.jpghttp://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j331/Dolphinvet/20140522_173033.jpg
Dolphinvet
The bluing that is on the original Colt Thompson's, which I believe is called "Carbano Blue", has not been used in probably 80 years. The method that was used to obtain the beautiful blue that's on the original Colt's is still proprietary to my knowledge. Dulite isn't as pretty in my opinion. I have a '28A1 in pending right now, and I'd love to get it blued like an original Colt, but nobody does this type of finish that I know of. BTW, this M1 shoots great. Took it to the range on Saturday before last, and ran a few magazines through it. Not a hiccup at all. Edited June 4, 2014 by Dolphinvet
anticus
I don't know who PK uses for his bluing, but my SBR he built looks just like the old Colts.

darrylta
The last time I checked there was (2) sources that do the Colt carbonia finish. Ron's Gun Shop and of course Turnbull. It's expensivebut worth it in my opinion. I own a Colt reproduction WW1 1911 with the blue carbonia finish, the finish is a match compared to the Colt TSMGs.Below is a couple of photos of my WWI Colt / Ron's Gun Shop carbonia reproduction 1911.-Darryl Edited June 6, 2014 by darrylta
DisThunder
Wow, that's one helluva transformation. I don't blame you a bit for wanting to get it back to the GI configuation, but I have to say, there was something undeniably cool about the nickel-plated bastard form it started in. It looks like something a movie armorer would've died to get their hands on.
