dalbert
Mine has some "extra" features due to having spent time in Egypt. The markings on the right side of the stock are the ones that no one can decipher Lanchester reduced.jpgI used to have an Arabic translator who worked for me, and he interpreted similar markings on other British rifle stocks as Educational use, meaning that it was probably used for training. StrangeRanger
Dave,That is the translation I've gotten for the carvings on the left side of the stock. Two native Arabic speakers confirmed this but neither of them could make sense of the right side carvings. Both said they are not a word. Perhaps it is a unit symbol or something similar. I have seen pix of 4 different Lanchesters with the same markings so I am certain that this is an official mod of some sort. I actually wrote to the Egyptian Embassy on the off chance that they would be able/willing to help but have received no response
Rekraps
Considering the Arab warrior proficiency, I interpret the markings to mean, "Bullets go out the other end".
jl7422
I've got one with the same stock markings, and got the same translation "For Education". Love shooting that gun, although I prefer 32 round Sten mags to the 50's for balance and reliability. Very underrated.

jl7422
SR: I checked with my brother to see what he remembered of the translation. Same as yours-- "for learning" or "for education" on one side and what our interpreter surmised to be a unit marking on the other.
StrangeRanger
That makes at least 5 known examples of Lanchester with the same markings.I'd love to know what that right side marking is about.
APEXgunparts
What does this one say on the left side? The right side of the stock has no markings. Richard Edited January 6, 2022 by APEXgunparts
StrangeRanger
That's a whole different marking, possibly not even ArabicHere's my stock. (And one of Apex's employees was among those who translated the left side as "for education" but could not decipher the right)
jl7422
I want to think IMA had some of these marked stocks on their kits / wall-hanger Lanchesters offered some years ago.
Rekraps
Agree. These and others like it (MP28, MP18, MP34) are hidden gems. Really nice guns. trim.624D2BA9-0364-4D39-A2F3-0C4877A4E820.MOV
