  1. Here are the people involved in this debacle: Officers, Board Members: John Brown, President -Battlefield Sports, Ltd. Teresa Starnes, VP -DoubleStar Jeff Folloder, Executive Director, Sec/Treasurer Additional Board Members Curt Wolf , Vice President - US Armament Corp. Robert Landies - Ohio Ordnance Works Wayne Weber - Heckler & Koch USA Darren Mellors - LWRCI Robert Segel - Small Arms Review, The Partisan, NFATCA Newsletter John Brown, Publisher Jeff Folloder, Senior Editor Oleg Volk, Graphics Editor I know a couple of these people and they are no "real" supporters of the second amendment. Having spoke to them in the past about getting the 86 manufacturing ban repealed, I was told that would ruin the value of their collections and profit with lower prices and they would fight any repeal. Nice guys huh!
  2. QUOTE (philasteen @ May 13 2006, 07:11 AM)Third, the reason parts kit will dry up is because there are only so many Thompsons in storage in the Soviet Union et al, and there time to come in is past. Let's not forget parts hoarders. I know of guys that have 8 and 10 parts sets to keep their one or two guns running.
  3. He is getting $515.00 for a kit without buttstock or screws, buttplate or screws, sling swivel or screws or stock slide and screws. Also, no magazines come with this kit.
  4. Two years ago I restored a Colt Thompson in the 50 to 60 serial number range. (I won't post the exact number without the customers permission.)
  5. I'm thinkin that's sourcasm... Or at least I hope it is.... Z, It might be sarcasm if the guy knew anything about guns ... but that seems questionable. Another questionable item would be ... should this guy even be allowed to own a gun with a "sense of humour" such as this. TRG, It's Cali-BRE not Cali-PER! Geez!
  6. QUOTE (gijive @ Feb 5 2006, 09:38 PM)Why don't you call them and find out. Do a liitle homework yourself, instaed of expecting everyone else to answer your questions for you. What do you expect with a moniker like "ClintonLover"?
  7. QUOTE (Arthur Fliegenheimer @ Jan 25 2006, 11:38 AM)It is perplexing why Lee Ermy, a Vietnam veteran, considers Wayne his ultimate warrior idol. Maybe we see something in John Wayne that your myopic world can not perceive.
  8. Guy is right, there used to be honor among those in the machinegun world. You will still find it in some of the old timers. I have been in the business long enough to have seen the transition and my take on the subject is that it started with the manufacturing ban. As the price of the guns we love so dearly began to rise in value ... the sharks, with nothing more than $ signs in their sights, infiltrated our ranks. When the guns were relatively inexpensive (I remember $600 & $700 TommyGuns) nobody cared. It was about the gun. With the advent of $20,000 guns the greed in men's hearts prevails. (Not that there weren't any long ago ... just a lot fewer of them.) I used to do gun work for a customer, send it to them for approval, and wait for them to send me my pittance. I never had to chase anyone for it. That has come to a screeching halt. I no longer extend that courtesy to new customers. So I think we can safely thank those responsible for the M.G. ban in 1986 for the Sharks of today. Nature does not bestow virtue; to be good is an art. - Seneca
  9. And now let's hear from the guy this is all about. Let me explain my conversation with Mr. Lowe as I remember it. First, I told Mr. Lowe that we could not "remove" his West Hurley address and/or serial number. That what I could do was "move" it to a different location (magazine well) where it would be readily accessable to ATF inspection. NOT ILLEGAL! Done BEFORE originals markings are removed. Part of my business is reproduction A4's,A6's and 1917's. When the guns come in with some goofy manufacturer's logo where the Saginaw or Westinghouse address should be ... I engrave their logo on the bottom edge of the receiver, weld up the address on the rear of the gun and commence to engrave the appropriate logo and proof marks. (The "current" serial number of the gun is placed in the appropriate spot in the new address. If the customer wants, his intials are used as U.S. INSP.) If you have ever seen the 1928 Colt watercooled MG's that Collector's Corner sold years ago ... I designed and engraved all that logo on the receiver. Mike Brown's original address would have been on the inside of the gun after it was built. To comply with ATF regulations his Group Industries address was engraved along the bottom edge. ATF liked the idea as they didn't think taking the gun apart to check the serial number and manufacturer address would be fun. (It actually is not technically correct to have it on the inside of the receiver.) This did not make the gun an "original" Colt nor was there any intent on my part to deceive anyone into thinking that so! And I have never heard any feedback that Bob was doing so either. The markings were done to give the gun an "aire" of originality. This is all that I would be doing for Mr. Lowe. His serial number would not change nor would the paperwork ... still a West Hurley gun and would give his gun an "aire" of originality. As for Mr. Lowe claiming in this thread that he has already removed all the markings from said receiver ... I had explained to him when he called that I would not accept a sanitized hunk of metal into my shop. (I believe he wanted to do this to save $.) This sanitized piece could be anything but the original West Hurley and I am not going to jail for anybody!! I have too much legal work to do than to get involved with unknowns!! I run, and always have, a straight up legal business. I've been doing this for 26 six years now and those of you who only know how to pull a trigger ... should keep your digits off the keyboard. Everyone knows what is said about arguing with an I.D.10 T. As the old saying goes - "I have forgotten more than most of you know!!!" Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people. This about covers it ... where do "you" fit in this thread? Ron - As far as you go ... you were a pain in the arse to deal with back in the day and the "fax" thing was just the icing on the cake. No hard feelings about it but if you're waiting for an apology from me because you were a dick ... sorry it ain't comin'. Lionheart - enjoyed the popcorn thingy ... this was entertaining, wasn't it?
