Asmodeus
New to me at least. West Hurley Model 1928, made in 1979. http://www.supercharger.net//private/NFA/thompsom1.jpg http://www.supercharger.net//private/NFA/thompsom2.jpg http://www.supercharger.net//private/NFA/thompsomtop.jpg http://www.supercharger.net//private/NFA/thompsomdrum.jpg Good shooter; accurate, and fun. The 50 round drum is a new production unit, runs fine so far.

First Sergeant
My WH was made in 1977 and runs great !! The early models with all Savage internals ran without a hitch. I'd change out the buffer pilot if it hasn't been done yet. That was about the only part on the early guns that wasn't surplus. It's a safety issue too. I think Mike has a story on that one. Congrats and enjoy !! Chuck
Norm
Nice looking Westy! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif Sure to turn heads at the range! I also noticed that you have "peep hole" imitation Lyman sight. My West Hurley 27A1 has one of these sights. They seem to be easier to aim than the sight with a notch. full auto 45
Yep, get rid of the buffer pilot as it will fly apart on you. It is not a one piece design and does break and can shoot out the back and take out your cheek or eye! Replace it with one that has the "S" for Savage on it and you will be fine. My 1977 Westy has all GI stuff but that, and guess what.....it broke just when you least expect it. Mine did at Tracie's shoot the first year. I got a nice new looking one from Phil Askew and a spring also and it runs like a scalded ass ape now.
Asmodeus
Any suggestion as to where to get an appropriate buffer pilot?

The1930sRust
What a wonderful weapon! Congratulations. I think PK here has new buffer accessories. Give him a look. I, too, have a West Hurley 1928 that was brought "up to spec" by Paul (PK). I am now running a 1921 actuator and new buffer assembly he made. Wow! It runs even faster and I love it. Enjoy the gun and never sell it...

cavediver
In answer to the question. I bought my Wh #309A in 79 for $795.00 sold it in 87 for 2k and bought it back in 2004 for 4K. It has always run very well.
PK.
Asmodeus, Military 28 buffer pilots can be obtained from various surplus sources such as Sarco. Phil Askew of these boards should have them also, and his surplus parts are known to be of excellent condition. I manufacture an "enhanced" pilot. This is exactly like the GI except the tolerances are held on the high side for better fit and the length is optimized to offer the best support to the spring. E mail if interested. pmlogg
Reference the list of WH production, I bought S/N 319A as an upper receiver only in late 1976 and had it assembled in Canada on Savage lower receiver S107867. It certainly went fine, even better with a set of 1921 internals bought from Numrich at the same time.

pmlogg
TD I'm afraid the only one I saw was the one I assembled. I sold it to Marstar going on 4 years ago.
