tricky9914
So I was browsing Gunbroker and came across this action: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/938981551 It is a DEW "exact replica" of the T1 FG42. It is 1 of 3 supposedly made. Now before I get too cynical, I thought I would ask you guys your thoughts. No way in I would ever drop that kind of coin on a repro, especially with the SMG guns out there at 5% of the cost. At that point, I would just start saving for a real one... Anyway, thought I'd share!
mattnh
Uh, no (to the $125K). I seem to recall they were expensive (like 10K or 20K), but they are def around... https://www.firearmsnews.com/editorial/smg-guns-fg-42-reproduction-review/377435 Edited July 8, 2022 by mattnh

Blanksguy
Years ago.....when Estes-Adams teamed up with another man up in Washington state (??) early 2000s time frame.........then went on trying to gather funds for a production of a semi-only model of the 1st-Model FG42. Due to funding, etc........the project seemed to die out.....with money being lost in the time-frame of the project. I seemed to recall that Estes-Adams was only involved in the R&D side of things.....but can not recall the other man's name.Seeing the "DEW" as the manufacturer of this weapon, and the additional "spare-parts" in box.........is this the old Company (?)......maybe one of the proto-types (?). Anyway.....would be interesting to hear more about this gun......the "DEW"......and the outcome of the Gun-Broker-Auction.
BRMCII
Estes actually produced some parts for the 2nd type FG42 from what I recall but, also, not any complete guns. I also would be interested in the story of "DEW", who they were, when they were making these guns, their history, what quantities of parts, etc were produced, what happened to them, etc, and all the usual details. I've been around MGs a very long time and with a corresponding interest in the FGs including owing a vintage example and this outfit and their semi have never been visible. It is claimed that all original internals of a type 1 FG will fit the receiver of this semi version in which case it would not be legal or importable as a "semi-MG" under ATF's semi configuration requirements. So that is a question. Plus if the owner is searching for a buyer, where can the gun be seen and handled? Blanksguy
Again.....not sure of the name/spelling.......but wasn't the other person in that FG42 semi-only project a "David-Wilcoxen" up in Washington state (?).This may be the gun that was made to show-off and build up sales for the project (?).Maybe that is what the "DEW" on the receiver was for (?). Dingo
I know that Adams bought some parts for the FG of SSD in Germany, and he tried to make a deal of buying a load of receivers from SSD. The deal fell through, and i think that ended the FG project that time. I am guessing the magazines are from SSD to.That price is insane Edited July 9, 2022 by Dingo
Countryboy77
Maybe tgey hit an extra '0' because 12,500 is the Max this gun should be
BRMCII
The MGs offered by this outfit are routinely way over even high market in price so this offering, in my opinion, is no exception. Maybe that works for them. Seems to be their MO.......

maxfaxdude
My God. I paid less for my real one.^^^^ Exactly! It seems like almost everything on GB is described as "rare" thereby attempting to justify an extremely inflated asking price.
Got Uzi
Didn't you know that rare is a word used to describe damn near every listing on GB these days....most "rare" items are rarely sold for the rare prices people ask.
StrangeRanger
Rare = They didn't build many of them because nobody wanted to buy them the first time around
