Support your local gunshows its not all tube socks and picklesNot trying to spoil your recent Gun Show experience, but I don't believe your picture is of John Taliaferro Thompson. Some similarities are apparent but I do have some training in facial recognition. The earlobes on the real John T. Thompson are completely different from the guy in your picture. Maybe at the next show you could exchange it for some tube socks?
TD.
Excellent analysis by gijive. Question: What is the insignia "U.S.R." on the uniform collar supposed to identify? Another picture: Edited October 4, 2019 by TD.
Taliaferro
Also the collar logo looks like a medical insignia. USR is US Army Reserve. Not the same man. If I remember therewas a doctor Thompson in the story of the Panama Canal. Tracie
dalbert
I think that is William Gorgas. My father did his internship at the hospital named after him in the former Panama Canal Zone in the early 1960's, and then he was Chief of Dermatology there when we lived there from 1973 to 1977. I could be wrong on it being Gorgas, but the photo made me remember pictures of him I used to see at the hospital, and IIRC, on Canal Zone stamps. Waffen Und Bier
My girlfriend attended a gun show with me a few years back and even she asked,"why do they sell glass cleaner and salad dressing at a gunshow?" I got nothin'.

dalbert
I'm not sure if it's Gorgas, but for me, it's fun to reminisce about the former Canal Zone. What a wonderful place it was back in the day. I remember this photo of Gorgas. Here is the photo from the gun show. To gijive's earlier point, I'm not sure the lobes match here, either. Very similar, nonetheless. anjong-ni, Thanks for posting the stamp photo. I have a bunch of them in a box somewhere.
