  1. I know Got Uzi organized a tribute Thompson drum shoot for Mike at TUSCO earlier this year. For those of us who were unable to attend that and are going to TATA maybe we could arrange the same during the free shoot this Saturday. RIP Mike, you are and will forever be missed.
  2. Got Uzi is correct. My experience in both Michigan and Ohio is the forecasters have a hard time forecasting YESTERDAYS weather. I only trust one app it's Accu Window. The weather is not a guarantee but having a Great time at TATA is. See you there !
  3. Mauser Matt, I have one of Merle's kits with a suppressor adapter that threads onto the internal barrel sleeve. It extends the sleeve past the muzzle in both the M1 and 28 barrels with 1/2 x 28 tpi threads for adding a suppressor. With a decent .22 suppressor the gun is very quiet.
  4. 3 weeks should be enough time to make a weather request: Sunny, 75-80 degrees and low humidity. I heard that Tracie "knows a guy"🤔 See everyone in 3 weeks !!
  5. John, Looked liked a fitting tribute. Wish I could have attended. Mike would be pleased.
  6. I am in complete shock. Mike was a friend and mentor to everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. Mike always took the time to discuss anything Thompson and sought out as many unique guns/accessories; making the rest of us very envious. RIP Mike you will be missed by many. Condolences to the entire family.
  7. Warm to hot vinegar will also remove bluing, just a slower process. I've done that to a stock catch for a PK'd 21 WH. Hard to tell at a glance from my original Colt catches.
  8. Phil, "Some guy" LOL Looking forward to it as always. Thanks in advance Tracie !!
  9. I find it very curious that the 'Russian' saw fit to cover the last few digits of the serial number of the one uncrated. Made me go "hmmmmm, why would they care about the serial number."
  10. I second the bolt drag theory. Was the slower rate of fire the "typical" 28 rate from the Savage lower? Or was it even slower?
  11. Congratulations Tom !! Likewise I'll grab one at TATA. Looking forward to it. Still looking for that mag catch I held onto since 1978. 😞
  12. RIP Merle. Another another legend in the Thompson Community who has earned his Rest in Peace. He'll be missed.
  13. The one Neal actually took to the moon is in his museum in Wapakoneta, Oh.
  14. It is definitely looking better than the first time I saw it. Good Job John !!
  15. I recall purchasing a non-cross bolt 28 stock from an Ebay seller "in the Detroit area." This was back when they were very very tough to find. Upon arrival the outside of the package read 'old wood handle.' You guessed it, it was shipped from Windsor Canada. Yikes !!!!
  16. When flying with NFA I have always used a 1710 Pelican. If you are good at packing you can fit more than one NFA in the case. I've had a 1928A1 Thompson, M-16 and Uzi in one case but you do have to be creative. Stocks, grips, forearms etc. are packed within regular checked luggage. Never an issue.
  17. Room booked, form goes out tomorrow. Thanks Tracie, always a great time with new and old friends. Cya in August.
  18. I have witnessed many times where a jammed Uzi will fire if the mag is dropped as the first sequence. To all: adhere to the muzzle down range, finger off trigger, bolt locked back, safety on , drop mag sequence. It works !!
  19. Rabbit57, Honestly I can't remember (CRS) where the shorter spring came from. It may have evolved from a conversation with Merle and I modified an original spring. I am away from the location of the kit but will try to get a measurement on it for you. If I recall Merle thought a 10 1/2" spring worked best, which I believe is the shorter one supplied with the kit.
  20. I T&E'd one of Merle's early kits and discovered the wobble mentioned above. My WH ended up with finish removed from the actuator slots on top of the receiver. I called Merle from the range and during our conversation he redesigned the actuator. I recall him saying "If a guy would......" Not being an engineer I was lost after "If a guy would." I even posted a warning on here about the potential damage. Within a few days Merle sent me a new actuator and the issue was solved. Not sure what I ever did with the original actuator. My plastic case for the kit has the cut out for the old actuator and the new one just doesn't quite fit. One mod that I wish I would have gotten was the cut out for the ejector. Kind of a pain to take the ejector out to switch over to .22 but I've gotten pretty good at it over the years. A business card under the ejector prevents scratching the finish. I have several spring lengths that work great. My shorter spring will slow down the cyclic rate to 600 or so with Federal bulk and is my favorite. Most .22 conversions in various FA guns shoot around 1000 rpm or higher so 600 rpm is ideal.
  21. There is still a YouTube video of me shooting a complete drum thru full auto 45's 28 WH. Flawless.
