Mike Hammer
Getting back to the Racine Dillinger Thompson. There is an excellent account of Racine robbery, the guns' capture by the Dillinger gang, the guns' engraved stock and it's recovery and return to the police dept. It's covered in the Nov. 15, 1998 edition of the Thomson Collectors News. It seems the stock was indeed ingraved by Dillinger himself, this fact alone probably makes this the most historic Dillinger Thompson in existance. The whole Racine robbery was depicted most recently in the Dillinger biopic, Public Enemy with Johnny Depp. I will be going up to Wisconsin again in a month or so, I will try to get to the site of the famed shootout at "Little Bohemia" and bring back some pics to post. 21 smoker
IIRC the 2 Thompsons that J.D. stole during the Indiana jailbreak was #6444 and #7387..both were thrown into Lake Michigan after his lead posioning by the son of the `Lady in the red dress`...and many years later rescued from the FBI crime lab by Gordon H. There is no doubt about the authenticity of those particular guns.
ThompsonCrazy
Are there any photos of the "Lake Michigan" Thompsons floating around(pardon the pun)? Gordon H saved them..... into a museum, his collection, etc? This is the closest I'll ever get to Dillinger with a Thompson! http://i52.tinypic.com/350q8ee.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/dmtjpg.jpg TC

Jerry S
During the 4th of July weekend last year I was visiting relatives in my old home state of Wisconsin. Being not far away from Racine WI., I decided a little trip was in order to visit The Racine Police Dept. and a very special weapon on display there, The "Dillinger" Thompson. Dillinger made a headline splashing robbery in Racine by knocking over The American Bank and Trust Co. on Nov. 20, 1933 to the tune of almost $28,000. Nobody was killed but he did show a display of force by spraying his Thompson into the ceiling, I'm sure that got everyone's attention. I'm not certain of the details regarding the recovery of this particular so called "Dillinger" Thompson. It's a Colt Navy gun with serial #3363. Perhaps some other knowledgeable Thompson aficionados, board members can relay the facts not only of it's use and recovery, but also the origin of the engraved name of Dillinger on the buttstock. Detailed pictures were difficult to take because of the positioning of the gun in the case and the reflections from the glass, but here are a few to look at. Mike Hammer [ I have shot SN 3363. It is a Colt Navy with military internals. Stock is a Remington and Upper and lower match. gun is in decent shape considering the Racine PD has used it quite a bit. Gun was in some lame ART display and not cared for so PD claimed it back and put into current display. I have considerable pictures and video of the gun.
