The auction description states that the TSMG was shipped to a police department in Ohio in 1929. The description then goes on to state that the receiver has a JHB inspection stamp.

 

Why would a Colt TSMG that shipped to a PD have a Government inspection stamp?

It is supply and demand. I am looking for a 1928A West Hurley or Savage.....Either or and the West Hurley's start at 22K and go up. I am shocked at the prices.

A Thompson without a JHB stamp is more rare, he did have sick days. Does anyone know how many 28 Navy's there are compared to 21's or 21ac's?

I think there were more navy guns than any other model

I saw that gun on-line when the Morphy's catalog came out. From the pictures it looked like a very high condition gun though I did not see it in person.

 

It went to the Bowling Green, Ohio police department - which is about 20-25' up I75 from me.

 

I was interested, but knew it would go for way more money than I could spend. But $101,475 is - what's the word? Impressive? Crazy? Amazing?

 

Just goes to show that there are people out there with lots of disposable cash. Had to have at least two of them to get to this number of course.

It would be nice if Morphy would post the amount seller received in addition to what the buyer paid.

The amount the seller received might be more shocking than what the buyer paid.

Also what if any taxes are assessed .

One would think a scrubbed off US Property is a possibility but the location is off slightly. Maybe the person running the roll die had a bad morning?

Rock Island will have a total of 24 submachine guns for auction on the December 3rd-5th auction. There will be a lot of variety of machine guns including some nice TSMG's if others are interested. I can only imagine what the prices will be on these. I will be watching myself.

I think the US aircraft SAVAGE Lewis in 30-06 was a good deal!
I had it book marked, was wanting to be available when it came up, but was dealing with issues at work and missed it.

There is always the possibility it won't get paid for or made reserve price? I bid on one gun that had been in the last auction and possibly the one before it? That's now twice I haven't gotten it!!
