I thought this Colt was already bought by a member here a year+ ago?

Recommended Posts

Looks like the deal was never real, or it fell through? Anyways, it's a nice looking local Colt with PD marks owned by someone local to me. If anyone is serious, and needs more pictures, I can go check it out and get more pictures as long as I'm given like a week to do so.

That was me. A long story.

Short version: gun was in Dell's dad's estate. His dad died more than 10 years ago. ATF declined after 15 months (September 2016.)

I got most of my refund then but the rest just came, 11 months later.

Dell can fill in the rest, I want to move on with my life.

I'm done with new NFA purchases, and Thompsons.

I am not aware of transfer issues NOW: Dell finally persuaded ATF to put it in his name, it took a lawyer I'm told. Too late for my transfer!

I'm just glad I finally have all my money back.

Any questions should be directed to Dell.

It's not wasting time of your life at all. You mail in a form and that's it. It's not like you have to work the entire time you wait for it to get it back. I understand your frustration, but if you want a Colt Thompson, get it. I waited 3.5 years for an amnesty registered Sten because the ATF messed up the paper work in 1968. No biggy. It's a first world problem that I'm lucky to even have.

You may already own a Colt Thompson, but if you don't, then get one. It one of the pinnacle pieces of my collection, and I feel honored to even have the thing at my house!

Nothing wrong with M60 man thinning the herd ,Or losing interest in a long drawn out deal. We all hopefully have a life besides Thompson's. And if you have any kind of Life. You know things change. Some don't want to wait forever or seems like it on paperwork now. Like Gordon's book. And he never saw the first issue sold did he? God rest his soul now. And many others I can mention who I saw two years ago at SAR show and are not with us anymore. I have sold off 98% of everything in the past five years. And I hope to make SAR show in 2017 again. But not anybody here can say that. I knew a few who bought stuff. And passed away while paperwork was in process. Or a close family member did and they lost interest fast.

So sure this is a reason to buy if you want something bad. But the paperwork wait is a pain. And I actually know of two who put up deposits for those belt feed AR-15 b.s. guns and passed away waiting for the stinking things to be delivered. what two three and four year wait.. Now today you can walk over to Dan Shea table pay and walk away with one.

We all enjoy whatever we do in life. And keep enjoying while here.

Just some like to get a jump on things. Oh yeah and know what reality really is. We get to enjoy it and be the historian while here. After that it ends up becoming another persons stuff. Like all the Thompson's.. And all the other guns.. not very many vets left from all the past wars that are still kicking and we have their stuff. Even the NAM ERA guys are getting up there. And I am in that crowd. Hope to be around a little longer, And enjoy the banter from everybody. But never down anybody if they don't like the wait. Or they sell off. when they feel its time.

That way they know what they get. And the Vultures are not picking over the gear when good Ole Bob left. W.Buxton was gone last year. It did not take long for the Son to get call's and b.s. stories of what to sell to who and why.And even a few E-mails about hey Ron who is getting Gordon's Thompson. When my good buddy Danny Rewers passed. And Tommy from this forum.I got calls who is getting what?

I asked is this the Rabid Jackal hotline? When you been around a long time you get to see it. And it is sad and not pretty. But hey that's just ME. Always went to a different drum beat. And many won't ever admit they do it. But they do. And want to be first in line. They get to go to Thompson Heaven with a mismatched, Rebarreled, Reblued gun.HA HA

Enjoy

I've lost interest. Too many guns, so I'm going to start thinning the herd.

I tend to agree with you pal, the government BS on these guns is getting old. And like the stock market, MG prices are way in bubble territory, simply not worth the crazy money people are now asking. While my guns are selling now for higher than when I bought them, I've never and never will view them as an investment and I think people that do are being short sighted.

When the reality of the false economy finally hits the unwashed masses who believe the phony economic numbers produced by Uncle Sam, you are going to see mg prices drop like a rock. People buying at today's prices will be burned beyond recognition. No, the price escalation will not continue much longer. When the economy comes tumbling down, (and it won't be long now), the prices for things you must have will skyrocket to the moon, the things people don't need, (like Machine guns) will plummet as people will have to sell luxuries to scrape up more money just to survive.

M.H. Yes the finance bubble. Which I never ever talk about much anymore.

It is more like stayin alive to enjoy anything everyday.

The morning of the Dresden bombing. They thought that day was going to be good for them. Until nightfall. Or the dates of DEC,7TH and Aug 6th and Ninth... and many other's. So its best to plan for today and look at that Bridge Too Far and Hope.

Kind of Like the "TOKYO RAIDERS" A toast to the final one.

Ron,

Right on. Gotta have a little respect for the dead.

I always tell my friends to wait at least 3 days after I die before contacting my wife to buy my guns.

I make an exception for the Colt Tommy and the Lewis LMG. In this case is OK to just wait 24 hours after my passing.

I'm sure my friends will respect my wishes.

Of course I have no control over my wife. She might be calling my friends even sooner.

Jim C

PS as long as the government keeps making the dollar more and more worthless , by printing money, prices for gold and guns will

continue to rise. Well guns anyway, not so sure about gold.

Depends how much the wife luvs ya. she might be selling them now,And when you pass friends you never had will come out of the woodwork to pick over the bones. Seen it dozens and dozens of times.. I guess they think hey man I am living forever grab up this stuff now. Even the picker show buys all dead peoples stuff 90% of the time. Its all estate this in the Barn that, and locked away from aunt Mamie over there. I can say I have never done that at all from any friends

.Since if I see them again at the dinner table of Valhalla or crossing the Rainbow Bridge. My Soul will still get respect. Even in life if I did not. Just chuckles and wise remarks....

Ron,

The surest way to die early is to stop collecting.

You loose the reason for living. Other collectors no longer call for opinions. People at gun shows point at you and quietly say, see that guy, he used to really be somebody.

Before you know it ,its nursing home time.

But , of course you could be the exception.

I have no problem waiting on things. I waited 8 years for one of those belted Shrike uppers.

I waited 3 years for a host for my Fleming HK sear.

But this Thompson deal was different. It was so far out of my control, between the ATF and Dell's situation, and the long wait for part of my refund. His title/transfer/money problems became mine.

Coincidentally, I retired just after ATF denied the transfer. My Mom died during all this, last year. Life has gone on.

This failed Thompson transfer was pain, disappointment, anger, and anxiety, nothing like my other NFA experiences. Now I feel relief. I'm so happy that it's all behind me.

Maybe with time I'll get the excitement back. Maybe, if I see a gun that appeals to me. If I get one I'll post it here. Earliest will be a year!

Ask the Russians or the Venezuelans. We don't just have appreciation. We could suffer the same fate called inflation. You had better have hard assets.

In the meantime, I can finger fuck them.

Can't do the weed thing. I have been accused of that , before. lol

Eric

Forgot to mention. I would pay $100,000 for the right Thompson.

Here’s my thoughts if you care to read them:

1. Having a gun hang up in transfer is a rarity.

You should make sure the seller has valid paperwork before buying any NFA gun.

Yeah, it’s usually a long wait to get an NFA gun transferred, but it’s worth it. Nine or ten months is an annoyance but it’s not going to keep me from buying.

2. People have been insisting that the US economy was on the verge of disaster since I was a little tiny kid.

The first time I heard someone say we were on the brink of doomsday, Nixon was still in office.

Now that about 50 years of doomsday shouting has passed, I’m starting to disbelieve the random pessimists that make random predictions about random doomsday.

Last time the stock market crashed, I bought a whole bunch of stock and made out like a bandit. The people who cashed out and bought gold lost their ass.

So yeah, I’m sure doomsday is right around the corner (give or take 100 years). Because you say so.

3. Every collector market that has a dramatic price increase gets called a “bubble” by people that don’t understand what a bubble market is.

A bubble market is when a whole bunch of people jump onboard to make a profit. And when the profits stop, they bail out and the prices crash.

An example would be the baseball card market in the early 1990s, people who had ZERO INTEREST in baseball cards were buying them to make a profit. The prices zoomed up and then tanked.

Machine guns, on the other hand, have gone up steadily in price for 10 years. Even went up in the face of the 2010 recession as the other collectables took a nosedive.

When you see threads on the internet about buying MGs, the buyer is always a hardcore gun collector who wants to buy his favorite MG. They threads are NEVER about investing.

Anyone who is waiting for the big machine gun bubble to pop before he buys is going to end up with zero MGs in his gun safe.

Me, I’m waiting for the collector car bubble to pop, I just know I’m going to be able to buy a 1960 Ferrari GT 250 for $5,000. Any day now! The people paying $700,000 are idiots! It’s a bubble market I tells ya!

That having been said, the MG prices will eventually level off.

The higher the prices go, the fewer new buyers will be able to afford to enter the market.

There is going to be a ceiling to the prices, hard to say where it is.

The number of guns is small enough that 100% can be bought and owned by the jet-set crowd. How much would a multi-millionaire think is too much for a Thompson?
